Donald Scala Sr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 25, 2025.
Donald W. Scala Sr., 80, of Palisades Park, New Jersey, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. He was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on July 6, 1945, to Joseph Scala and Eleanor (nee Cavanaugh) Scala and grew up in Hudson County, New Jersey. Donald was predeceased by his beloved wife, Kathleen (nee Murphy) Scala and is survived by his loving son Donald Scala Jr. and his adoring grandchildren, Paige Scala and Logan Scala. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Donald was a truck driver for Red Star Express for many years before retiring. He was a sports enthusiast with a keen mind for sports trivia and statistics and a die hard Notre Dame fan. Known by his community as a "true gentleman and Pal. Pk. legend" Donald volunteered countless hours of his time giving back to his community. He was a coach and umpire for the Palisades Park Little League and Babe Ruth League and a member of the Palisades Park Recreation where he helped run various recreation programs, most dearest to his heart, the Saturday morning basketball program. There will be a private cremation and celebration of life service. Donations can be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Palisades Park Fire Department.
