Donald Smith Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 26, 2025.
Donald Alan "Al" Smith passed away on March 15, 2025, in Salt Lake City, Utah, due to complications from diabetes. He was born on November 13, 1961.

Al lived in many places around the world but graduated from high school in Maryland before pursuing higher education at Mountain West College in Salt Lake City, where he earned an associate's degree in computer technologies.

Known for his towering presence and kind heart, Al worked as a bouncer at several establishments in Salt Lake City. He was also a passionate custom trike builder and rider, often seen cruising the Salt Lake Valley on his distinctive green machine. His love for motorcycles and the open road was matched only by the deep friendships he formed over the years. Many of those friendships were fostered at Old Hippies Coffee, a beloved gathering spot on 3300 S 800 E.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, Royce and Helen Smith, as well as his grandmother, with whom he shared a special bond. He is survived by his brother, Randall Smith, and many dear friends. Among them are Willy, a special lady with whom he shared a residence and who provided care during his illness; Marshall, a close companion with whom he shared a passion for trikes; and Tammy, a cherished friend of 39 years. Tammy's children-Corey Ann, Candie, Danielle, and Aaron-will also deeply miss him.

Al's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. May he rest in peace.
