Donald B. Thompson

Donald B. Thompson passed away at home on April 19, 2023 surrounded by his family. His was a life
well lived and he was very proud to be 98 years old. He was born in Port Angeles to Matthew and
Irene Thompson on October 9 th , 1924. He met his wife Bobbie after serving his country in World War
II, and they were married for 77 years. That's an amazing fact in itself but they have remained
sweethearts and best friends all through the years, which is truly a record to be proud of.
Don was skilled at fixing and repairing things and was often called on by family and friends who had a
problem to solve. He was willing to find the right tool and lend a hand. He worked for the City of Port
Angeles for many years as head mechanic and when he retired in 1977 he was foreman at City Light
Garage.
Don had a strong sense of right and wrong and was an extremely honest person. He didn't talk about
his faith but was quietly spiritual and assured of his place in heaven. He was preceded in death by his
parents, and siblings Ray, Donabel and Delmar. At his request, no services will be held.
Don and Bobbie enjoyed camping at Whiskey Creek Beach in their motor home and they were often
joined by their children and grandchildren. They had a lively social life and enjoyed dancing and
playing pinochle with friends and family.
Don is survived by his wife, Bobbie and their 4 children: Diane Kirk, Dona Smasal, Garry Thompson
(Debbie) and Brenda Tassie (Cliff). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren,
and 1 great great grandson.
Whether he is Donnie, Dad or Grandpa, he leaves us knowing that he was loved and will be deeply
missed.
