Donald H. Thorpe

1924 - 2018

Thorpe, Captain Donald H. of White Lake, MI passed away December 27, 2018, age 94 years young. He was surrounded by love with family at his side. We lost one of the few remaining of the greatest generation. Don is finally reunited with his beautiful, beloved wife Barbara Jean Thorpe and son Donald E. Thorpe, along with brothers Gene and Doug, as they all welcome him in heaven. He is survived by and will be greatly missed by his dear children Ken (Lola) Lynn (Jon) Teresa (Stanley II) Kim (Augie) as well as his sister Joyce. Don will live on in the hearts of his 19 adored Grandchildren, and numerous great-Grandchildren & great-great-Grandchildren. Also survived by his cherished bulldog Samson. Fondly remembered by nieces, nephews, extended family and the many lives he has touched. Don lived an enriched and full life. He served his country with great distinction during WWII as a U.S. Navy, Corpsman. Don was stationed in the South Pacific. Don was a member of the American Legion Hall, FOE of Waterford, MI and donated to many organizations throughout his life. Don was a decorated Fire Captain at Station number 1 in Pontiac, MI. He was on the department for 28 years before retiring from injuries. His life was dedicated to the safety and well-being of others. He and his wife had a passion for fishing and camping. Well into his 90s, he made it a point to attend family functions, as well as grandkids sporting events that he so enjoyed. Don left us the greatest gifts of love, guidance, integrity, and set the standard for a life well lived. He lived to love his family. His love is his legacy. A date for celebration of life is pending to honor this great man.
