Donald Vander Molen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 18, 2011.
VANDER MOLEN – On July 18, 2011 Donald Vander Molen's 75 year journey here on earth ended when his loving Savior called him home where he joined his parents, Mabel and John Vander Molen; his brother,David; his sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Henry Velzen and his beloved grandson, Matthew Vander Molen. After graduating from Grand Rapids Christian High Don spent two years proudly serving in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman. He was one of the founders of Centennial Securities Co., in Grand Rapids and worked as a stock-broker until his retirement. He was an avid outdoorsman particularly enjoying hunting and fishing with family and friends, and flying his ultralight airplane. Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 53 years, Judy (Calsbeek); his son, Dan (Amy) Vander Molen of Grand Rapids; his daughter, Donna (Charlie) Raymond of Chesapeake, VA; five grandchildren, Marlee and Elli Vander Molen, Charles, Anthony and Julia Raymond; one great grandson, Jaxon Vander Molen; his brother, Milton (Norma) of Huntington Beach, CA; brothers-in-law, John (Mary) Calsbeek of Coloma, MI and Ron (Diane) Calsbeek of Glen Arbor, MI; several nieces and nephews. Don was a loving and devoted husband and a very proud and attentive father and grandfather. His contagious love of life and sense of humor will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Special thanks to the caring people from Michigan Hospice and the Sunrise Assisted Living Center who gave Don such wonderful compassionate care in the last years of his life. Anyone wishing to make a contribution in Don's memory may do so to the Alzheimer's Research Center at the Van Andel Institute. As requested, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held in celebration of his life. “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. John 11:25
