Donna Cook Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 29, 2025.
Donna Jean Cook, 79, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2025.

She was born in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and spent most of her life in Louisville, Kentucky, where she created a warm and welcoming home filled with love and devotion to her family.

Donna was the beloved wife of the late Michael W. Cook Sr, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and companionship. Together, they raised three children-Michael W. Cook Jr. (Barbie), Denise Risse (Steve), and Guy M. Cook (Sherry)-who were the pride of her life.

She was a cherished grandmother to David Kuntz, Geneva Kuntz, Justin McIntire, Madison Palmiero (Anthony), Alexis Cook, Garrett Cook, and a devoted great-grandmother to Jesse Kuntz, Alexis Kuntz, Silas Kuntz, and Vincent Kuntz. Each of them brought her endless joy.

She is also survived by her siblings, Harry Smithson (Sandy), Jay Smithson (Faye), Laurel Holmes (the late Gary), and Karl Smithson (Diane), with whom she shared countless memories and family traditions over the years.

Donna will be remembered for her unwavering love of family, her generous spirit, and the warmth she extended to everyone she met. She especially treasured time spent with her children and grandchildren, creating bonds that will continue to live on in their hearts. Her presence brought comfort, and her devotion to those she loved will remain an enduring legacy.

She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but the memories she created and the love she shared will be forever treasured.

Private family services will be held and in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Evansville Heart to Heart Hospice House in Donna's memory.

My Aunt Donna was a warm and welcoming person who had a beautiful heart of gold and a selfless giving spirit. I truly enjoyed spending time with her. Aunt Donna taught me how to play endless card games, and showed me how to make many family cookie and candy recipes. She loved to cook and I always enjoyed sitting down to one of her delicious southern meals with a glass of her wonderful sweet ice tea! I could talk to my Aunt Donna about anything and I did. Sometimes she would just listen and sometimes she would give me advice. Aunt Donna was a devout Christian and a true lover of God. There was not an unkind bone in her body! I will miss her deeply, but I do know that she is now present with the Lord!
