Donna Dinkmeyer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 28, 2025.
Donna Clarilda Dinkmeyer (née Brueggemann), age 96, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025, in Burr Ridge, Illinois. A devoted educator, church servant, and lover of nature and travel, Donna lived a full and vibrant life that touched many across generations.

Born on December 4, 1928, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Donna was the daughter of Ella and Adolph Brueggemann. She grew up in New Haven, Indiana, where she graduated from New Haven High School. Her passion for learning led her to Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana, where she pursued her education with dedication and purpose.

Donna began her professional career as an elementary school teacher. From 1951 to 1953, she taught at Whittier Elementary School in Blue Island, Illinois. She continued her teaching journey at District 118 in Palos Heights from 1953 to 1957. Her commitment to nurturing young minds left a lasting impression on her students and colleagues alike.

In addition to her work in education, Donna served as the Records Secretary for The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Palos Heights from 1980 until her retirement in 2005. Her meticulous attention to detail and steadfast dedication made her an integral part of the church community for over two decades.

Donna married Robert S. Dinkmeyer with whom she shared a deep bond and a love for exploration. In their twenties, they traveled extensively through Europe-a testament to their adventurous spirit. Later in life, Donna continued to explore the beauty of the United States. Among her favorite destinations were Arcadia, Michigan; Naples, Florida; and the Hawaiian Islands-places that reflected her deep appreciation for nature and the outdoors.

A voracious reader with an inquisitive mind, Donna found joy in daily crossword puzzles and cherished quiet moments spent immersed in books. She also enjoyed golfing and traveling-activities that brought both challenge and delight into her life.

Donna's legacy lives on through her loving family: sons Brian Dinkmeyer (Joyce) and Bradley C. Dinkmeyer (Leslie); daughter-in-law Eva Dinkmeyer; grandchildren Elli Dinkmeyer, Blaire Dinkmeyer, Libby Dinkmeyer, Tracy (Lucas) Dinkmeyer, and Michael (Kayla) Dinkmeyer; and great-grandchildren Donovan Dinkmeyer, Jocelyn Dinkmeyer, Jaxon Dinkmeyer, and Hector Dinkmeyer.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert S. Dinkmeyer; parents Ella and Adolph Brueggemann; sister Betty Bowers; and son Blake Dinkmeyer.

A Celebration of Donna's Life will be held on August 15, 2025 at 11 a.m. at The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd where she was a Charter Member.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd at 7800 S. McCarthy Road in Palos Heights, IL 60463 or Trinity Lutheran Church at 17191 3rd Street in Arcadia, MI 49613-two communities that held special meaning for Donna throughout her life.

May Donna's memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.

My sincere condolences to the Dinkmeyer family. I first met Mrs. Dinkmeyer as my 4th grade teacher in 1954 at Palos west elementary school. I thought she was a great teacher and the kind of an adult a 9 year old admired. She let me take some photos in class one day. So I have attached the one of her at the desk. my parents the Kruegers joined the Good Shepherd church when services were held in the school. As life long member I have known Donna from childhood to adulthood. She was truly a wonderful person. So caring and giving of herself, a blessing on earth.
