The world recently grew a bit dimmer with the passing of Donna May Hammond on March 9, 2025. Donna's life began on April 14, 1945, in Alameda, California, marking the start of an incredible journey that would touch countless lives, blending creativity, intelligence, and an unyielding spirit into everything she did.

Alameda's vibrant California spirit was evident in Donna from an early age. She embraced her education fully, graduating from Castro Valley High School in 1963 and later pursuing further studies at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. Despite the challenges of raising four young children, she graduated with honors, proof of her diligence and determination.

Donna's life found a pivotal moment as a teenager during a vacation at Bucks Lake in the Sierra Nevada mountains, where she met Mike Hammond, the love of her life. Their union became the cornerstone of a partnership that spanned six decades, built on love, respect, and a shared joy for life.

For many years, Donna shaped young minds as a kindergarten teacher in Beebe Public Schools, contributing her talents and creativity to the after-school program as well. Her professional and personal accomplishments were highlighted by her unwavering loyalty to her family and community.

Once her children had graduated college, Donna and Mike embraced their thirst for adventure, journeying across six continents, gathering memories and stories as they experienced the world's diverse cultures and landscapes. Time at home was lovingly shared with her extensive family, offering moments that would become cherished memories.

Donna's faith guided her through life, evident in her over 50 years of membership at the Beebe First United Methodist Church. Her community involvement extended to the National Education Association and Delta Kappa Gamma, and she was a passionate supporter of charities related to cancer research, human services, and veterans, reflecting her compassionate and generous spirit.

Those who remember Donna include her husband, Mike Hammond, her children-Dr. M. Kevin Hammond (Jackie) of Cape Girardeau, MO, Mrs. Kara Baumgartner (Tom) of Maumelle, AR, Mrs. Kristi Doyle (Brian) of Marion, AR, and Ms. Melanie Hammond of Maumelle, AR. Her loving family also includes her sister, Mrs. Gloria Hammond (David) of Hot Springs, AR, her brother, Gene Eggman II (Anita) of Bella Vista, AR, six nieces, four nephews, seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Donna's impactful presence and unwavering love are gifts that her family and friends will hold dear forever.

Donna will be laid to rest following cremation through Arkansas Cremation, with a Celebration of Life planned for future remembrance. In parting, we hold tight to Donna's memory with words inspired by Winnie the Pooh: "If there ever comes a day when we can't be together, keep me in your heart. I'll stay there forever." Our enduring love for our cherished mother, wife, sister, and dear friend ensures that she remains with us always, in memory and spirit, her influence eternal.

Sadness happened when I learned of Donna´s passing. We rode through elementary school here in Castro Valley (CA) together, as well as afterward. She was always good to others as she was good to her family & beliefs. Bless Donna & her family. Her departure is felt deeply, as is the gift she gave of her friendship & love for others.
