Donna J. Hane

Donna Jean "Bunny" Hane, 87, Pine River, Minn., and occasional resident of Warrenton, passed away peacefully after a rich, Christ-centered life Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, at North Memorial Medical Center, Robbinsdale, Minn.

Bunny was born Aug. 14, 1927, in Minneapolis, Minn., the daughter of Lewis Peterson and wife Augustine, nee Klatt. She was the youngest of 10 children in a family full of love. Bunny attended University of Minnesota and nursing school at Minneapolis General Hospital. She obtained her RN in 1951 and later became a licensed nurse practitioner. Bunny taught CPR and dedicated most of her life to emergency, geriatric and occupational health nursing.

During her college years, she loved to dance. One night Bunny was introduced to the Apollo Club's swing band leader and trumpet player, Thomas Loren "Tommy" Hane. They were united in marriage Dec. 8, 1951, beginning what Bunny called her great love story. Bunny appreciated many things. Tom taught her a love of hunting. She was active in her church and in Christian Women, leading Bible studies and teaching adult Sunday school. Bunny was a volunteer for Faith in Action and Child Evangelism Fellowship. She restored furniture, made crafts, enjoyed the beach, fell asleep with a book in her hand and cross country skied into her 70s.

Bunny is survived by her daughter, Marykay Hane, Reserve, N.M.; five sons, Loren (Debra) Hane, McGregor, Minn., William (Diane) Hane, Walker, Minn., Ronald (Debra) Hane, Warrenton, Jeffrey (Linda) Hane, Hallock, Minn., and Thomas (Yully) Castle, Baxter, Minn.; one sister, Fern Newman; one brother-in-law, Michael Rak; 23 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tom Hane; parents, Lewis and Augustine Peterson; three brothers, Harvey, Clarence and Jackie Peterson; five sisters, Dorys Braden, Frances Korba, Vivian Rak, Grace Peterson and Betsy Rosolak; one son-in-law, Michael Bustamante; and one grand-niece, Kelley Ann Korba.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Jan. 31, at 11 a.m. at Church of the Nazarene, Backus, Minn.

A memorial service will follow at noon.
