Donna Rose Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 11, 2025.
**In Loving Memory of Donna Elyse Rose**

Donna Elyse Rose, 73, of Plainview, NY, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 10th, 2025 at her home following a long, courageous battle with early-onset dementia. She spent her final day surrounded by loving family.

Donna was born in Brooklyn, NY, on January 22, 1952, the oldest child of Rosalyn and Dr. Robert Ladenheim. She grew up in Forest Hills, NY, graduating from Forest Hills High School in 1969. Donna later graduated from SUNY Albany with a BA in Biological Sciences and Education, also spending several semesters studying at Colgate University. Donna went on to earn her Masters in Biology and Education from Queens College. She subsequently taught junior high school Science and then conducted medical research at the prestigious Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan.

In February of 1974, Donna met her future husband, Randy Rose. They spotted each other across the floor at a dance at The Desert Swim Club in Queens and the rest was history. They wed on August 17th, 1975, welcoming their son Brian in 1979 and daughter Sharon 4 years later. Donna and Randy moved their young family to Plainview in 1986, where Donna lived until the time of her death.

Always the doer, Donna chose to obtain her Real Estate license when Sharon became school age. She established a highly successful second career as a top-producing Real Estate Broker at various Long Island firms including Coldwell Banker and Lynda Baker.

Donna loved and prioritized her family. She spent endless hours helping her kids succeed in their academic and personal lives. Similarly, she was a dedicated wife who maintained an impeccably clean home, loved her pets, enjoyed travel and maintained an active social calendar. All the while, she remained incredibly fit, eating healthy and regularly going to the gym. Donna was an incredible wife and mother, and became a grandma in 2012 with the birth of Coby. This was followed in order by Drew, Avi, Rahm and Ela.

Shortly following the birth of Coby, Donna was sadly diagnosed with Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD), a form of early-onset dementia. As was Donna's way, she loved her grandchildren unconditionally, despite the large limitations put on her by this degenerative disease. Donna bravely fought FTD for over 13 years, despite there being no treatment nor cure, with the unrelenting love and caretaking of her husband, before ultimately succumbing to this disease.

Donna is survived by her husband of 49 years, Randy Rose; her children Brian Rose (Blake Rose), Dr. Sharon Rose (Dr. Prashanth Sreeramoju), grandchildren Jacob "Coby" Rose, Andrew "Drew" Rose, Avi Sreeramoju, Rahm Sreeramoju and Ela Sreeramoju; her brothers Dr. Marc and Dr. Jay Ladenheim; brother-in-law Robert Rose; sister-in-laws Sylvia and Rikki Ladenheim; numerous nieces and nephews and a lifetime of friends. Donna is predeceased by her beloved parents, Rosalyn and Dr. Robert Ladenheim; in-laws, Edith and Bernard Rose; and sister-in-law Louise Rose.

A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, March 12 at the Star of David Memorial Chapel, 1236 Wellwood Ave., West Babylon, NY. A grave-side service will follow. Following Wednesday's funeral proceedings and on Thursday March 13, friends are encouraged to join the family for Shiva at the Rose residence. Please reach out to [email protected] for additional details.

Donna's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Donna was one of my very first friends. We lived next door to each other and her house was my second home. I have wonderful memories of our times together. We played for hours every day and in the early summer ran around the beach club together when our family shared a cabana... and then as summer progressed we all went to Camp together. When she was at camp she usually got a great part in the camp play because she had a great singing voice and none of us will ever forget the season she brought the house down, and got a standing ovation with her renditon of "Bill Baily Won't You Please Come Home". She was amazing.

I am so sad that her last years were spent in decline but she was so fortunate to have an amazing family by he side and of course Randy who took such great care of her every day, all day.
My thoughts are with all who loved her deeply. I will always miss her presence in my life and will remember her with a smile, a big bright smile, like the one she had all the time.

An amazing big sister and aunt - always there for you. Think about her all the time. Fond memories of hanging out with her (and Randy) when I was young, family trips together, and the huge smile and energy she brought to almost everything. Photo from a trip to CA circa 2011.
