Doreen EGAN Obituary
Peacefully on October 6, 2016 at the Civic campus of the Ottawa Hospital, surrounded by family, at age 85. Predeceased by her parents, Lyman and Mabel Frazier, she was the youngest and final survivor of 11 children, sisters Alice and Viola, brothers Harry, Bill, Eric, Milton, Ronald, Edward, Donald and Kenneth. Married to Donald J. Egan for 59 years until his passing in 2012. Predeceased by two children, Julie and Douglas, survived by a daughter, Suzan, of Vancouver and three sons, David (Susan Montgomery) also of Vancouver, and Kelly (Laurie Fagan) and Norman, of Ottawa. Warmly remembered by grandchildren Sonja, Erik and Joe (all of B.C.) and Will, of Ottawa. Also survived by sisters- in-law Noreen Paquin and Barbara Egan and many nieces and nephews. Born in Ottawa, a graduate of Immaculata High, Doreen first worked at the Met Life, then had a lengthy career as an employment counsellor with the federal government, retiring in 1991. She was an avid bridge player, keen Coronation Street follower, a vocal Sens fan, a devout Catholic blessed with a wonderful singing voice. She served as president of the condominium corporation at Chesterton Towers and volunteered at many good works, including taking communion to the sick in hospital. She passed on a beautiful fall morning on the eve of Thanksgiving and, on her deathbed, struggled to say: "Thanks for all you've given me." There is no way to easily express what she meant to us, except perhaps to live well, be kind of heart, selfless and humble, as she so often strived to be. Mom made us better. We so loved her. My sincere condolences on the passing of your mother. Doreen lived down the hall from me in Chesterton Towers. She was a wonderful lady. Always cheerful and unfailingly polite. I know I speak for everyone who knew her in Chesterton Towers when I say that she will be missed. May she rest in peace.

Doreen was one of the nicest people you could ever meet. She was a dynamo as a volunteer with the RA Bridge group. And that ever present smile that would light up any room. Really saddened to hear of her passing.

My deepest condolences to the entire family. I worked with Doreen at the Canada Employment Centre for many years. Although we did not work in the same section, she worked nearby. She was always so patient, kind and helpful to her clients, as well as to her colleagues. Every day she came in perfectly coiffed and attired, with a lovely smile to boot. She was a real role model.

To the Egan Family
I have known your mother Doreen for 18 years. I served on the Board od Directors at Chesterton Towers, and that was the best 5 years of my 18 years in Chesterton. Doreen was a kind sole who was always willing to help out others. Loosing Doreen is also loosing a part of Chesterton Towers. Doreen, you are an angel, and now you are in heaven with no pain. You are already greatly missed.
