DOREEN J. ELIA 3/10/1933 - 8/5/2002 Passed away peacefully at her home in Union City, CA with her family by her side. She was 69 years young, born in Freedom, CA to Margaret and Alfred Murillo. Loving wife of the late Carl; beloved mother of John Hunter and wife Barbara of Sparks, NV; Cindy Elia-Barnett and husband Dave of Newark; beloved stepmother of the late James Elia; beloved niece of Ernestine Garcia of Long Beach, CA; loving aunt of Pam Figuerido and husband Gary of Fremont; loving cousin of Gene Finley of Oakland and Christine Vigil of San Leandro. She is also survived by an extended family of cousins and close friends, who also also knew her as Doris. They willingly came to her home in large numbers for holiday parties and GREAT barbecues. A seventh generation Californian, she became interested in family genealogy several years ago. Doreen was instrumental in providing valuable family history to others and helped to initiate an annual family reunion picnic that is now in its ninth year. She loved antiques, working with stained glass, and was employed in the insurance business for David White, Inc. of Danville for 19 years. Always ready for a getaway, her favorite vacation destinations were Lake Tahoe, Donner Lake, and the family lodge in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Her kind, giving and caring ways will be forever missed. Family and friends are invited to attend visitation on Thursday, August 8, 2002; 6PM to 8:30PM at the Reflections Chapel; Chapel of the Chimes; 32992 Mission Blvd; Hayward, CA Graveside services will be held Friday, August 9, 2002; 11AM; also at Chapel of the Chimes.
