Doreen Fingado

CENTERVILLE — Doreen (Gamble) Fingado passed peacefully at home on Nov. 2, 2008, surrounded by family and friends.

She was born Doreen Elizabeth Templeton Gamble, the daughter of Thomas and Annabella Gamble of Philadelphia. She graduated from the Philadelphia High School for Girls and received her nursing diploma from Episcopal Hospital in Philadelphia.

Doreen met and married Philip Fingado, now deceased, while attending the University of Maryland. She also obtained a bachelor of science degree from Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pa.

Doreen worked at Prince George's Hospital in Cheverly, Md., where she was on the faculty of an LPN program. After moving to New Jersey, she worked in the ICU and CCU of Hunterdon Medical Center and Raritan Valley Hospital. After moving to Cape Cod, Doreen worked part-time in the ICU, CCU and emergency room departments of Cape Cod Hospital. She also worked part-time as a member of the clinical faculty in the nursing department at Cape Cod Community College. In 1985, she took a full-time position at Cape Cod Hospital in the staff development department as a diabetic educator. As diabetes became more prevalent in the general population, Doreen became a certified diabetic educator. She retired in 2007 due to illness.

She is survived by three wonderful children, son P. Andrew Fingado of Centerville, and daughters Amelia S. Fingado of East Taunton and Sarah and husband Peter Simonelli of Southbridge; and eight grandchildren who brought her much joy, Mike, Johnathan and Julie Fingado, Nyah Araujo, and Antonio, Domenick, Sophia and Marco Simonelli. She also leaves a sister, Joan Tew of Mt. Laurel, N.J., and brother Bill Gamble of Radnor, Pa. She was predeceased by sister Nancy.

Doreen was an active member of the Federated Church of Hyannis. Her memorial service will be held there Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, at 9 a.m. Burial is private.
