Oh, Doreen, I tried to reach you on your birthday. Now, I understand. To your family I say: I am sorry we share this loss. I have known Doreen since her time at Highbridge Woodycrest Community Center in Bronx, NY. We´ve stayed in touch over the years. I count Doreen as a friend. So many ideas we exchanged in conversations stay with me to this day. I´ll never forget watching the inflation of the Thanksgiving Day balloons from her lovely apartment. May we all know peace when the sadness subsides. - Helen Claxton

What a lovely memorial. We watched from London and reflected on our memories. We all stayed with Doreen in 2017 and had a magical time when these photos were taken (as both John and I had done before and I first did in 1980). Your memories of the police brought back about one of the times Doreen stayed with us in London. She had forgotten our telephone numbers and address, but was very resourceful and knew, as we are police officers, she could find us! She dialled 999 and told the operator her dilemma. She made her way to the police station as recommended (I sense a theme here for her with liking police stations!) and an officer called us with this tall tale - all true of course. We collected her and laughed over a large gin and tonic! With much love and warm thoughts, especially of Doreen in the red kitchen. Ella, John, Amelia and Chloe Marriott xx

My sincere condolences to the Wohl family. What an inspiring woman, I wish I had known her but am grateful for all she did to bring the West Side Campaign Against Hunger into being.

Doreen was my mentor and friend since I first met her in 1964. She led me to understand that poverty in America and the Vietnam War were connected and, more than anyone else, introduced me to the Civil Rights Movement. I will miss her and remember her fondly.

Ringing her bell outside her 15th floor window so we would all come up for dinner.
