Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 7 to Aug. 13, 2024.
SPRUCE PINE - Doris Patterson Brown, age 80, of Spruce Pine went home to be with her Heavenly Father on July 30, 2024.
Born on Oct. 7, 1943, in Salisbury, Doris was a graduate of Landis High School ('61) and an alumna of the Women's College of the University of North Carolina ('65). Doris' career as a microbiologist saw much change and advancement in the medical field.
Doris was a beacon of love and joy, cherished deeply by her family and all who knew her. She was known for her radiant presence, contagious laugh and a profound love for her husband, family and the mountains that surrounded her home.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Hettie Patterson; sister Susan Hutchens, brother Reid Patterson; and her beloved granddaughter, Claire Atkins.
Doris was a devoted wife to her loving husband of 58 years, Elihu "Butch" Brown. She leaves behind her baby sister Lynne (Dave) Borden. Doris was an adoring mother to her daughters Angela (Jeff) Atkins, Sandra Elizabeth (Kent) Harrison and Emily Parker. Her most honored role was "Grandmommy", and she is fondly remembered by her grandchildren Abbigayle (Jonathan) Bremner, Lydia (Brandon) Billings, Brianna Harrison, Caroline (Zeb) McKinney, Mariana Harrison, Sarah Atkins, Lelia Parker, Ryan Parker, and Patrick Harrison; great-grandchildren Silas Harrison, Evangeline Bremner, Josiah Bremner; and many nieces and nephews.
Doris' unwavering love and the happy memories she created will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends. Her steadfast faith and hope in her Lord Jesus Christ sustained her through all of life's joys and sorrows, and her family is infused with that legacy.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10 at Yancey Funeral Services. Pastor Jeff Atkins will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. A graveside service will follow the funeral service in the Spruce Pine Memorial Cemetery.
