Doris Gertrude Lair, also known as Blondie Lair, peacefully passed away on October 6, 2023, in Urbandale, Iowa, at the age of 96. She was born on November 9, 1926, in Clinton, Iowa, to the late Henry and Katie Klooster who were Dutch immigrants.. Doris was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, and her memory will forever be cherished by her loving family.

Doris was a vibrant and opinionated woman who held a deep passion for her family and had a keen interest in current affairs and politics. She enjoyed watching news shows and never hesitated to voice her thoughts and opinions. Doris was also a dedicated partner to her late husband, Herschel Lair, assisting him in his business endeavors.

In her free time, Doris indulged in various hobbies such as sewing, crocheting, gardening, crossword puzzles, and traveling. She also maintained an active lifestyle by regularly participating in walking and water aerobics.

Doris attended Fulton High School in Illinois and later completed two years of business college. Her educational background equipped her with the skills needed for her career as an accounting clerk. She worked at Schick Hospital and JC Penney, where she displayed a strong work ethic and attention to detail.

A private family graveside service will be held at 1:30 pm on October 10th, Tuesday, at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Des Moines, Iowa. The caring staff at Sunset Memorial Gardens Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Doris is survived by her beloved daughter, Laura Nelson, her son, Lonnie Lair, and her twin sister, Trudy Lint. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Charles Nelson, her daughters-in-law, Jeanette Lair and Nancy Lair, as well as her grandchildren: Jennifer Ewers, Ryan Ewers, Sanaan Villalobos, Shalayna Smith, Sean Lair, and Nathan Lair. Doris was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Landric and Lail Villalobos, Exton and Eonie Smith, Paxton Lair, and Audrey Ewers Additionally, she leaves behind nieces Diana Philpott, Marcia Gregory, and Sandra Wilde.

Doris is preceded in her passing be her parents Henry and Katie Klooster, her husband Herschel Lair and her son Larry Lair.

Doris Gertrude Lair will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her memory will forever be cherished by her family and friends.
