Doris Thomas Ramsay

Milton - Mrs. Doris Thomas Ramsay, 92, of Milton, Georgia, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, March 22, 2026.

Born in East Providence, Rhode Island, Doris was the beloved daughter of Kenneth and Lucy (Kallar) Thomas and the devoted wife of Samuel Hamilton Ramsay, Jr. She built a life grounded in strong faith and an unwavering commitment to her family. For more than 69 years, she shared a loving marriage with Sam-together creating a life rich in laughter, resilience, and countless cherished stories.

Doris marveled at nature's beauty - from skiing the mountains of Vermont, to sailing off the cost of Rhode Island, to watching the beautiful sunsets in Fort Myers, she was in awe of all of God's creation.

Doris graduated from the University of Rhode Island and went on to receive her master's degree from Providence College. She was active in the Right to Life movement. She spent her professional years as an educator in East Providence and Cumberland, Rhode Island. She loved her students and although teaching was her career, retirement was her calling.

She lived a joyful life with enthusiasm and a sense of adventure. Doris loved to garden, paint and sing, and she shopped with equal passion. Doris and Sam traveled the world-from Scotland to China, from Alaska to the Bahamas-proving that "retirement" simply meant having more time to explore. She was a devoted member of St. Aiden's Episcopal Church, where she found joy in worship and singing hymns.

Above all, Doris was the heart and soul of her family. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents and her brothers, Donald and Kenneth (Irene) Thomas, and is lovingly remembered by her sisters, Elizabeth (Milton) Hinsch and Irene Thomas. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Sam; her six children, Samuel (Deborah), Catherine (Joseph), Andrew (Diane), Susan (Michael), Rebecca, and Sarah (Douglas); along with her sixteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild-each carrying forward a bit of her spirit and unmistakable sense of humor.

Doris will be remembered for her quick wit, her generous heart, and her unwavering ability to make life feel both meaningful and fun. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a family that will forever hear her voice in their heads-offering wisdom and encouragement.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at St. Aiden's Episcopal Church in Milton, GA. In lieu of tears, Doris would likely prefer a good story, and perhaps a little shopping in her honor.
