Doris A. Slocum

Doris A. Slocum, 68, of Sedalia, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2011, at Bothwell Regional Health Center. She was born on august 12, 1943, in Sedalia, a daughter of Joel and Eunice (Struemph) Scott.

On December 18, 1965 she was united in marriage to Lanny Houk who preceded her in death on September 11, 1983. On July 23, 1984 she was united in marriage to Richard Slocum who preceded her in death on December 12, 1995.

Doris enjoyed shopping, cooking and spending time with her granddaughter. She was a member of the New Apostolic church of Sedalia.

She is survived by one son, Jamie S. Houk and his wife Lorna and one granddaughter, Allison Houk of California, MO; one sister Leah Young and her husband Willis of Sedalia; one brother, Milton (Bud) Scott and his wife Polly of Springfield and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Lanny B. Houk II on August 11, 1977.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, August 29, 2011, at New Apostolic Church, 28th & Grand in Sedalia, with Rev. Ron Sorenson and Rev. Rick Rehkop officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sedalia.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 pm Sunday, August 28, 2011, at Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia.
Memorial contributions may be given to her grandchildren's scholarship fund in care of the funeral chapel.

Pallbearers will be Chief Warrant Office 4 Willis G. Young, S. Riley Platt, Jerry Fluty, Steve Rehkop, Wray Jobe and Rev. Rick Fuendling.

Honorary bearers will be Willis W. Young, Joel G. Scott, Jared Rorabaugh, Clarence Struemph, Larry Struemph, Ron Fluty, John Junior Fluty, Jim Fluty and Joel Fluty.
