Dear Gilligan Family,

I didn't know your mom, but had the pleasure of knowing many of you when you were students at Benilde St. Margaret's and now through your generosity to Risen Christ School.

In knowing you, I know your mother was an incredible woman of faith, generosity and warmth.

You are in my thoughts and prayers,

Helen Dahlman

Dear Gilligan family,
I still remember being at Benilde with John when he told me his parents names were "Baldy and Dot". It was near the beginning of a life-long friendship where irreverent humor is always appreciated.

In reality, during the many hours I spent at Townes Road I found your mom to be an ever-welcoming presence who had a way of focusing on the good in us, being patient with our shenanigans, and somehow got to know us personally and appreciate us.

Over the years I've had glimpses of the family sometimes through our kids befriending Gilligan kids, but mostly through my sporadic visits with John where he always seems to unknowingly marvel at how your family has grown, how certain family members have tirelessly been there for his aging parents, and the tremendous respect he has for his Dad who seems to be the definition of what it means to fulfill the wedding promises "to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. and to love you and honor you all the days of my life."

These are the Irish blessings that will be forever treasured long past this sad time.
Bless you all,

May all the Gilligan Hearts be filled with wonderful memories of their beautiful mother. Dorothea's smile and darling laugh will live in my memory forever. She lived a life well lived. A special tribute to the family members who cared and made sure Dorothea was taken care of in her later life. A job well done.
