Dorothea Trudgeon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 12, 2025.
Dorothea "Thea" Trudgeon (née Knipfel), 82, passed away on March 3, 2025, in Savage, Minnesota.

Thea was born on April 28, 1942, in Hammond, Wisconsin. She graduated from Hammond High School in 1960. She went on to attend the University of Minnesota and pursued a career as an X-ray technician and teacher at Swedish and Mount Sinai Hospitals in Minneapolis, where she dedicated 35 years of service.

In 1966, Thea married Jim Trudgeon, and they shared 42 wonderful years together until his passing in 2009. Jim and Thea were active members of their local MG club, where they formed lifelong friendships. They loved driving around the lakes, attending car shows, and taking part in club events and gatherings. After retiring, they became snowbirds, spending winters in Florida. They enjoyed walks on the beach and cherished the sight of manatees in the canals. Thea had a deep love for travel, particularly exploring Europe. She was a legendary hostess, and she delighted in entertaining friends and family by hosting holiday gatherings. A talented crafter, she especially enjoyed cross-stitching and sold her intricately designed Santa Christmas ornaments at craft fairs.

Thea is survived by her sisters Janet Holcomb and Maxine Hurd; her sister-in-law Janice Knipfel; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe and Mary Knipfel; her brothers Gene, George, and Donald Knipfel; her sister-in-law Betty Knipfel; and her brother-in-law James Hurd.

She will be remembered as a devoted sister, aunt, and friend whose warmth and creativity brought joy to those around her. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.

My Aunt Thea was always a very kind, generous and loving person. My fondest memories were holidays, particularly Christmas, at her home. We, as a family, had so many traditions. And while we did tease her about her intricate napkin folding, her hostess skills were amazing. She was a great cook and taught me many things.
She and my Uncle Jim were a perfect match - relationship goals for sure! They enjoyed the same things, shared so many wonderful experiences and loved each other deeply. I´ll never forget seeing them driving around Lake Harriet in the MG.
I loved hearing about her adventures in Europe. She would travel alone to meet her one of her besties and they would travel a few countries for a month each time. She always brought us back wonderful gifts from those trips and I always thought it was so cool to say My Aunt brought me this back from Italy, or Scotland.
I will miss spending those holidays with her and our "almost" shared birthdays. I´m glad she had a great life full of family, friends and love. May she rest in peace with Jim and her brothers now. LOVE YOU AUNT THEA!!

Although our visits always included family gatherings, you always took an interest in my life. I always enjoyed you and Jim talking about the MG's. You two always make our family gatherings more special.

Oh Auntie, I will miss you. Your story was a fabulous example of living & loving life. You embraced your passions like food, travel, crafts and celebrated family, friends & of course Uncle Jim. And when you could mix some or all of the above, you were at your shining star best!
Thank you for always making me feel special & completely loved. Kris

Aunt Thea, thank you for being a wonderful aunt. So many fond memories, especially during the holiday season. You made Christmas special for me. I remember counting the days until Christmas Eve, when we would come over and have a delicious meal and open lots of presents. I couldn´t sleep the night before, I was so excited! We laughed a lot, especially when Uncle Jim got beer as a gift, and he would exclaim, "sustenance!". Such good times.
