DOROTHY M.H. BANKS

Mrs. Dorothy Mae Hicks Banks, 70, of 2703 Manchester Dr., Prince George, Va., departed this life Monday, February 29, 2016, at MCV/VCU Health System, Richmond. She was born to the late Oliver and Pearl Hicks of Wilson, Va.

Dorothy was baptized at an early age at Jerusalem Baptist Church, Blackstone, Va. She was a loving, caring mother and grandmother whom opened her home to everyone in need. Her dream was to be a Ballerina because she loved to dance and cook. She was the quilted fabric of a strong black woman that kept the family together. She was what a mother, wife and friend should be. She will be missed by all who loved and adorned her.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Willie Hicks; sisters, Bernice F. Banks and Minnie A. Hicks.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her loving memories: her devoted children, Linda Banks Jones (Terry), Fontella Banks and Charles Banks; long time loving and devoted friend, Andrew Richardson; devoted grandchildren, Kenneth Banks, Jamekia Banks Taylor (Jason), Jamone Banks (LaShonda), Levon Mckeever, Menagea Williams, LaTonya Watson (Tremaine), Kaleshia Givens, Laquesha Givens, Dequan Givens, Anthony Banks, Latrice Mckeever and Calvin Givens, Jr; fifteen great- grandchildren, among one devoted, Jamarion Banks; sisters, Evelyn Coleman (Moses), Rosemary Jenkins (Craig); sisters-in-law, Corrine Taylor, Bertha Reese, Helen Cameron, Mary Johnson, Shirley Coleman, Mattie Seay and Elenor Ledbetter (Carlton); brothers-in-law, Jasper, Willie and Juleus Banks; one aunt, Thelma Walker; host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends among two devoted, Virginia Green and Evelyn Lewis.

Homegoing services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2016, at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, 800 Augusta Ave., Petersburg, Rev. Dr. Wesley K. McLaughlin, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Wilkerson Cemetery, Petersburg.
