Dorothy was born to James Avery and Mittie Swift Caudle on June 19, 1925, in Danville, Virginia; the 4th of 5 children. She moved to Flint with her family at age 4, a part of the GM migration from the south. She was a lifelong resident of Flint, spending summers at Lake Leelanau.
Dorothy graduated from Dye High School in 1944. Due to WWII her class was reduced to 22 students. Upon graduation she was hired as a secretary with GM / Chevrolet where she was introduced to her future husband, Donald C. Burton. Don and Dorothy were married on September 25, 1948. They were married 65 years. Don preceded her in death in 2013.
Her family was the center of her universe. She was a devoted mom to Don (Diana) and Debbie (Curt Collier) and loving grandma/nanny to Nicolle (Chris) Stroub, Matthew (Vika) Burton, Jason (Anna) Caya, Christopher Caya, Courtney Collier, Christin (Mark) Spender, Chad (Emily) Collier, Jacob Stover (Evan Fulford). She especially loved her great grands; Brendon, Mattalyn, Maksim, Alexander, Dylan, Pearson, Scarlett, Hudson, Georgia and baby Oscar.
As a faithful Christian, Dorothy prayed for her family unceasingly. Praying for safety, jobs, health and for life partners, she had enormous faith that God delivers miracles.
In addition to her immediate family, Dorothy leaves her brother Jim (Wilma) Caudle, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother William (June) Caudle, and sisters Virgie (Merle) Sipes and Verlie (Bob) Monroe, daughter-in-law, Linda Burton, great grandchild, Alexander Wood, and nieces and nephews.
“Mom, talk to you at 7.”

Mrs. Burton was a wonderful fixture in my Flint life. This is a great picture and captures her interest in people and life. The world is a little less bright without her. My love and sadness to Deb and her family.
