Dorothy Carlson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 9, 2023.
Dorothy Elizabeth "Dotty" Carlson, 95, of Windsor, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 18, 2023. Born in Hartford on December 22, 1927, daughter of the late John Alfred and Hannah (Peterson) Carlson Lundgren, she moved to Windsor with her family before her first birthday where she was raised and attended Windsor Public Schools.

After graduating as the valedictorian from John Fitch High School with the Class of 1945, Dotty took a position with the State of Connecticut. She spent most of her career as the secretary for the Chief Toxicologist at the Department of Public Health, retiring in 1989 after over 43 years with the State.

Dotty's life always revolved around her faith and her family. For many years, she cared for her mother and later her older sister, Helen, and always kept in touch with her siblings, nieces and nephews, and later her great and great-great-nieces and nephews. After Dotty's mother passed, she lived with her close friend in Wethersfield, Betty Spencer, for over 25 years.

Dotty was a member of Trinity Church in Windsor for over 70 years. She was active in many groups and ministries including several years as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, and as a member of the United Methodist Women (UMW). She always volunteered at the UMW's annual rummage sale and in the kitchen for fellowship hours and receptions. Most of all, Dotty lived out her faith in her everyday life…caring for others, visiting the sick and home-bound, and giving of her time, her talents, and her treasure to benefit others and to bring them closer to the Lord.

She leaves seven nieces and nephews, Pamela Kilbride and her husband Dennis of Woburn, MA, Janet C. Giardina and her husband Vincent of Monmouth Junction, NJ, Douglas Carlson and his wife Kathy of Washington, DC, Barbara Dunlap and her husband David of Richardson, TX, Sandra "Sandy" Easton of Colchester, Clifford Easton and his wife Martha "Marty" of Antrim, NH, and David Easton and his wife Susan of Whitman, MA; and many great and great-great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by five brothers, Rev. Francis Carlson, Walter Carlson, Herbert Carlson, Clarence Carlson, and John Carlson; a sister, Helen C. Easton; five nieces and nephews, Donald J. Easton, Alma Brennan, Walter "Buddy" Carlson, Jr., David Carlson, and Robert Carlson; and her friend of many years, Elizabeth H. "Betty" Spencer.

Her family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, April 15, 9-10 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 10 a.m., in the chapel of the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor. Burial will follow in Elm Grove Cemetery in the Poquonock section of Windsor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Christian Preschool, 180 Park Ave., Windsor, CT 06095. Remembering with love for Dotty. She was such a caring, loving woman..always ready to help. I have many memories of her...times in Florida and the Conn. Shore at Nan Carmon's homes. We served in United Methodist Women together and Dotty was always supportive. Also, we were in Bible Study together. Dotty is missed. Nancy Yost

Dottie was a dear, thoughtful and precious Christian friend. We served on many committees together in our Methodist Church. I have fond memories, too, of times that Betty Spencer, Dottie and I spent with Nan Carmon at Nan's beach house in Niantic and also in Florida. We had many hours sharing and having fun playing "May I" (Dottie won quite a few of the games). We also spent week ends in the Fall in New England at Stonecroft Christian week ends. Dottie will, indeed, be missed but always in my memories.
