COURTNEY, DOROTHY H. Of Birch Run Age 97, died Sunday, March 25, 2012 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Friday, March 30, 2012 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Birch Run. Rev. Fr. John Sarge officiating. Burial in Calvary Cemetery in Mt Morris. She will lie in-state at the church on Thursday from 11AM-8PM, with a Rosary service at 7PM, and Friday from 10AM until the time of services. Contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church-Bell Tower Fund or Genesys Hospice. Dorothy was born February 7, 1915 in Grand Rapids, MI to the late Thomas and Ina (Draa) Gibson, and has been a resident of Birch Run since 1945. She graduated from St. Augustine High School in 1932, Borgess School of Nursing in 1938 and the Nazareth College in 1939 with a BSN. She was employed by the Flint Health Department as a public health nurse. Dorothy served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a second lieutenant army corp. nurse. She married Thomas Courtney on November 15, 1945, and he preceded her in death on June 26, 1966. She retired in 1977, from St. Joseph's Hospital in Flint after working as a Registered Nurse for 42 years. Mrs. Courtney was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Altar Society, a Eucharistic Minister, and a former member of the Parish Council. She enjoyed traveling, reading, knitting, doing crossword puzzles and spending time with her family. Surviving are: Children, Joan "Jody" Dean of Millington, Beth (Fred) Sheridan of Birch Run, Martha (Herman) Coughlin of Mt. Morris, Timothy Courtney of Birch Run, Michele (Clayton) Konoski of Birch Run, Mary Jo (Ron) Sibilsky of TX, Julie (Mark) Rauschuber of IN; 26 Grandchildren; 32 Great-Grandchildren; two Great-great-grandchildren; Sisters, Patricia Moody of Plainwell, Phyllis Foster of Kalamazoo; nieces and nephews; and many other family.
