Dorothy Allene Davis Craig was born to Henry Earle Davis and Lucile Johnston Davis on September 11, 1930 at Kings Daughters' Hospital in Staunton, Virginia. She died at age 91, on Friday, March 4, 2022 at home in Charlottesville, Virginia She was predeceased by her parents and siblings, Mary Joe Davis Trainum and Henry Hunter Davis; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, George Lewis Craig, Catharine Craig Tureman Birchard, and Mary Gray Craig Thomas; and nephews, Stuart Craig and Robert Tureman.

Dorothy was raised on "The Tree Streets" in Waynesboro, Virginia. She was graduated by Waynesboro High School and Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

She lived most of her life in Charlottesville, Virginia, after living in Cherry Point, North Carolina while her husband, Daley, was in the Navy, and in Mattoon, Illinois for a brief time. Dorothy enjoyed wintering in Scottsdale, Arizona and Jupiter, Florida. She reluctantly boated on the Trypanic during winters along the coasts of Florida. Dorothy happily lived her later years among many dear friends and staff at University Village in Charlottesville.

Dorothy, or Dottie or Dot, married her pre-high school sweetheart, Samuel Daley Craig Jr. in the Waynesboro Methodist Church on August 23, 1952. They honeymooned at Big Meadows on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Prior to having children, Dorothy worked as a dietician at the University of Delaware, and later in life she worked enthusiastically as a seventh grade English teacher at Jack Jouett School in Albemarle County, Virginia where she made many long-time friends.

Dorothy had great respect and admiration for her three devoted children, Elizabeth Lucile Craig Riddick Kent, and husband, Alden Rust Kent; Samuel Daley Craig III, and wife, Cynthia Foster Craig; and Hunter Earle Craig, and wife, Stuart McNeely Craig.

She doted on her seven grandchildren, Lauren Myers Riddick and Catharine Gray Riddick; William Daley Craig, and wife, Kristen Riggs Craig; Samuel Brice Craig, and wife, Taylor Shoemaker Craig; Carter Cele Craig Valentine, and husband, William Izard Valentine; Hunter Wilson Craig, and wife, Julia Johnson Craig; and Mary McNeely Craig.

Dorothy was grateful to have been able to enjoy their five great-grandchildren, Chloe Grace Craig, Elizabeth Foster Craig, Dabney Marie Craig, Samuel Daley Craig IV, and Hunter Thompson Valentine.

Dorothy is survived by her husband of almost 70 years, Daley, her dedicated children and grandchildren and their spouses and by her great-grandchildren. She is also survived locally by her niece, Betsy Thomas Critzer, and her daughters, Liz Critzer Berry, and husband, Andy; Leigh Critzer Thraves, and husband, Trevor, and son, Samuel Sterling Thraves, and chosen son, Trip Thraves; and nephew, Robert Lewis Craig, and wife, Andrea. Nieces, Catharine Ann Tureman Richards and Ann Daley Thomas Tate and nephew, John Griffith Thomas and nine additional great-nieces and nephews also survive Dorothy.

Muzz, as she was affectionately called by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her grandchildren's friends, enjoyed being with family and friends most of all. She also enjoyed cooking and baking (especially her famous rolls, green bean casserole, iced brownies, spritz cookies and date filled Christmas cookies, and birthday and wedding cakes). She loved reading, playing bridge in four bridge clubs simultaneously, including The Bridge Club for decades, playing tennis, listening to and jitterbugging to Big Band Music, participating in church activities, and most especially going out to lunch. She was a faithful celebrant in The Birthday Group for over 60 years.

Dorothy was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Farmington Country Club, and the Junior League, all in Charlottesville.

The Craigs give their heartfelt thanks to Dorothy's God-sent caregivers, Brenda Shelton, Tracey Martin, Emma Kizer, Toyer Shifflett, and Nellie Miller. Lindsey Friesen, MD and Libby Showalter, RN have been knowledgable, meticulous and caring in Dorothy's medical needs over the years.

A private family burial will be held in the multigenerational Craig section of the Craigsville Cemetery in Craigsville, Virginia.
