Will miss Dorothy's call over the fence, WHAT ARE YOU DOING TOM?

“When I Am an Old Woman I Shall Wear Purple ”. This was one of Dorothy’s favourite books. Wear purple she did – lots of it but old, not Dorothy. She was young at heart and always preferred to be with those younger than herself. Purple was her favourite colour - she wore purple, painted her front door purple and she even had a purple rose bush in her yard.



Dorothy loved flowers – one of her favourites were sweet peas; she loved the opera; she loved chocolate; she loved BC cherries; she loved home-baked bread and jam; she loved clothes and had a great sense of style; and she loved dogs especially beagles.



We had our ritual when we picked up Dorothy to take her out on an outing whether it was to the opera, to go shopping or to go see some gardens. She always sat up front in the van because it was easier for her to get in and out. One of us would help her into the van and we would ensure she had her seat belt fastened. After we finished tucking her in, we would get a kiss. We invited Dorothy to our home for dinner, barbecues or for parties (Dorothy liked nothing better than a get together and be surrounded by friends and neighbours).



Dorothy liked us to call her Auntie Dorothy. We were former neighbours and we remained friends for over 15 years. We have an emptiness in our hearts with Dorothy’s passing. We’ll miss her dry sense of humour, her spirit in coping with her debilitating disease, her independence (although smart enough to know when to call on us to help out); her passion when she discussed world events and politics (she really admired Deborah Grey), her stories about her family, and her adventurous spirit. We feel blessed to have had Dorothy in our lives.

It is with deep sadness to hear of Dorothy's passing. I went to school with her at LCBI Outlook and remember her sense of humor and her stylish way. I last saw her 3 years ago at our 40th reunion and she had not changed one little bit. MS had robbed her ability to get around but her spirit was still the same and her dry sense of humor was intact. Our class has lost a great one.

It was very sad to say goodbye to Dorothy because we have been neighbours for 15 years. Her will to survive and enjoy life in fullness have been an inspiration to my family. She will be missed in our hearts forever.

It was with sadness that I read of Dorothy's passing. As we went to school together and were very good friends, I have many memories of those 'good old days'. I have a picture of two fourteen year olds--looking pretty goofy on 'Freshie Day',(1957). There was also some fun summers with 'The Guernsey Band'. When she was starting her teaching career, she stayed with us for a short time in Calgary. I have another picture of Dorothy and I taken in 1985. We were in Watrous and she was at home spending time with her Dad. We stopped in for a visit and it was then I leared she had M.S.

I understand your sorrow, as our daughter-in-law passed away a short time ago, and she too had struggled with M.S. I am thankful for all the good memories.

To Dorothy's Family:

For the past 16 years we have lived down and across the street from Dorothy. During this time she has been an inspiration to myself and others. She ALWAYS focused on the silver lining in life's challenges yet acknowledged the struggles. I will forever remember Dorothy's warmth towards our whole family, her strong will, her independance and her HUMOR, which brought many laughs to our social functions. Dorothy will be deeply and sadly missed in our neighbourhood and our hearts.
