Dorothy W. Harshbarger

Harshbarger, Dorothy W. Following a lengthy illness, Dorothy W. Harshbarger, 92, of Newnan, GA peacefully passed away on August 25, 2023 while under the care of hospice and loving family members. Dorothy was born to Miles S. Willis Sr. and Grace Brady Willis on November 6, 1930 in Worth County, GA. Her father died in May 1931 but Dot and her oldest brother were blessed with a strong and brave mother who worked hard to provide a home for her young family. Her mother later married John W. Evans, a widower, and with a happy marriage provided her children with a beloved stepfather. His work move the family to Smyrna, GA where Dot grew up and graduated from Smyrna High School in 1947. Dot had a very interesting working career starting out as a telephone switchboard operator during WWII and ultimately becoming an Executive Secretary in Atlanta. When she retired from her full time job, Dot enjoyed working for various school systems in Cobb County, GA and Richmond, VA. Dot had many friends both in Georgia and in Richmond and will be sorely missed by all. Dot was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Julian Harshbarger; her parents; her stepfather; and her younger brother, Wayne Evans. Dot was a devoted and loving sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her older brother, Miles S. Willis Jr., and sister-in-law, Eleanor, of Kennesaw, GA; her daughter, Paula H. O'Connor and son-in-law, William, of Newnan, GA; her grandchildren to whom she was "Momma Dot", William R. O'Connor Jr. and wife, Isabele, of San Antonio, TX, Robert C O'Connor of Atlanta, GA, and Elizabeth O. Land and husband, Travis J. of Canton, GA.; and her loving great-grandsons, Charles W. and Connor T. Land. A Celebration of Dot's Life will be held in Richmond at a future date.
