I wish I didn't live in NY STATE, right now. If I lived closer, I would be attending your Memorial services today. May you rest in Peace Dorothy. You had a life well lived. God Bless you.

I met Dorothy 14 years ago through my mother. Two gals from Jefferson Park living at Brookdale Lakeview on the lakefront. When Mom passed away, I continued to visit Dorothy and her lively dinner companions, eat at "old" neighborhood haunts, and continually cheer on the Cubs. As time marched on and our outings developed into a friendship I began to observe her as a mentor and model for aging gracefully . Always a life long learner, Dorothy and I would have many philosophical discussions, solving the world´s problems. During our very last conversation , she gave me a lecture on Woodrow Wilson ,for example. Most importantly, Dorothy shared her lively spirit and open, inclusive heart with me and so many people (and dogs, too.) Rest In Peace , my dear friend. "No one leaves for good ." -Sondheim .

Dorothy you are a remarkable woman. I look up to you. When I saw you on the news sky diving at 100 years old and now at 104, I said out loud " You go Grams" it was so cool to see you so happy and not at all afraid. I keep telling my family I am shooting for the 100 mark, God willing. My Dad's father lived to be 100 and my Dad's sister 105. So I guess I could have a shot at it. So sad to see you are gone so soon. Glad you got to do this last jump. I am 65 so I got a few years to go yet. May you rest in Peace and May God Bless you.

Dorothy was very special. I became friends with her about 7 years ago. I had dinner a couple of times with her in her building and we always had the best time. She will be missed very much. Age meant nothing to her. She was ageless. I also remember going to her apartment and winding her clocks. She had so many. That was pretty funny.

I'm a fellow resident of Brookdale Lakeview, who met Dorothy nine years ago, when I first moved in. I was busy trying to navigate the winding hallways of the building without getting lost, eating my dinner at a table for one, just settling in, you know. One day, as I was heading for the dining room, a lively little lady came up to me and said, "You're going to eat with us, aren't you?" I said, "Um...sure!" and that was the beginning of our friendship. Dorothy was the heart and soul of a group of residents who met for dinner every night to enjoy the food and the companionship. People would come and go--some moved away, some passed away--but Dorothy was always ready to make a new friend and keep our group going. She taught me much about life, and I'll always keep a place for her in my heart.
