Dorothy Inez Jones (née Morrison), beloved mum, granny and sister; affectionately known as Dot by her siblings; passed away peacefully on August 28, 2024, in Comox, BC, at the age of 91. Dorothy was born on January 1, 1933, in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England.

Dorothy's earliest years were spent at the family home in Newcastle Upon Tyne. Her family moved to St. Marks in Shepley when she was 6, it was this house that she always considered her favourite. Dorothy's family then moved to Ripon briefly when war was declared and finally, she moved with her mum and dad to Chester-le-Street before immigrating to Canada on October 31, 1956. Dorothy had a dog, Rip who she adored and was her constant companion.

After immigrating to Canada, Dorothy settled first in Vancouver, where she met her future husband, Stanley Clarence Jones. Dorothy and Stan were married on February 15, 1958, and moved to West Vancouver where they raised their three children. Dorothy and Stan divorced on October 2, 1988. In 1991, Dorothy retired and moved to Comox on Vancouver Island where she resided for the remainder of her life.

Dorothy attended Penistone Grammar School followed by Huddersfield Technical College, which laid the foundation for her varied and impactful working career.

Dorothy dedicated much of her professional life to serving others. Her first job was as a shorthand typist with Road Transport and General Insurance Company Limited. She then moved on to become the secretary to the Assistant Registrar at the University of Durham. Dorothy's final position before leaving England was as a Girl Friday for an Architectural Firm in Newcastle Upon Tyne. When Dorothy first immigrated to Canada she worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway as a Dicta-typist and then as Secretary to the Superintendent. Later, Dorothy applied her extensive administrative skills to her work for the Corporation of the District of West Vancouver in Parks & Recreation, Finance, Administration and later as the Administrative Assistant to the Chief Librarian at the West Vancouver Memorial Library. She was also a Sunday School Teacher at Saint Christopher's Church in West Vancouver, where she touched the lives of many young individuals with her kindness and wisdom.

Dorothy enjoyed hobbies such as playing bridge, games of any sort, knitting and crocheting. She loved to read, volunteered as a friend of the library in Comox and was a lifetime honorary friend of the West Vancouver Memorial Library. Dorothy loved classical music and live musical theatre. Dorothy was an avid walker and hiker; her favourite places were the Spit in Comox and Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver. She loved nature, the beaches, the flowers and the trees. Dorothy played tennis in her younger years and was a passionate follower of the sport. She would attend live matches at the Hopman Cup in Perth on her many visits to Australia and would watch matches on TV when she could. Dorothy also loved watching figure skating, dancing and the Olympics.

Dorothy loved to travel and did so extensively. Her travel destinations included the UK, France, China, Egypt, Japan, Australia, Korea, Singapore, Russia, Hong Kong, parts of the USA including a trip to Hawaii with her mum Catherine and mother-in-law Jean. During these trips she visited the Great Wall of China, rode camels and explored the pyramids in Egypt. Dorothy was travelling right up until she was 86 and loved every minute of it.

Dorothy was so grateful that she was blessed with three children: Kathryn, Paul and Peter. They made her life worthwhile. She adored her two grandchildren, Amber and Ryan, who visited her regularly at her home in Comox. Dorothy was a very loving mum, granny and friend. She was an amazing role model and life skills teacher. Dorothy was outgoing, thoughtful, and supportive to everyone she met. She always put others first and never asked for anything in return.
