On February 9, 2015, God received one of his best angels, Dorothy Louise Lingo, 89, of Kansas City, Mo. She was born in Plattsburg, Mo., to the late George and Daisy (Ratcliff) Newman on Aug. 5, 1925. She began her more than 50-year nursing career in 1945 when she proudly joined the U.S. Cadet Nurses Corps. In 1973 she became the first School Nurse at New Mark Middle School, so she could have more time with her children. She also worked in a variety of other hospitals, schools and health departments over the years, always in a dedicated and compassionate manner. She most enjoyed helping others especially children. She enjoyed success as an RN but her most proud accomplishment was being a mom. Dorothy was married to Ralph Leo Lingo, a downtown jeweler, in 1946. Before his death in 1972 they had five children, Ralph Scott, his wife Ramona, Martin, twin girls, Nancy and Peggy, and David and his wife Lori. The legacy continues with three grandchildren, Samuel and his wife Kelly, Emily Louise, and Alex and his wife Holly; five great-grandchildren, Brooke, Molly, Braedyn, Max and Charlotte. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy is preceded in death by sister, Willie Marie Allred and brother, CWO Herbert H. Newman. A Legacy of Love service will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, with visitation beginning at 4:30 p.m. at Terrace Park Funeral Home & Cemetery's Lakeside Chapel, 801 NW 108th St. (169 Hwy. and Shoal Creek) Kansas City. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of her husband Ralph.
