Dorothy A. Malone, 83 years old, passed away Monday, November 14, 2022 in a local hospice care center. She was born on December 27, 1938 to Louis and Elodie Gary Bertrand in Hathaway, Louisiana.
Mrs. Malone lived most of her life in Lake Charles, LA after her family moved there in 1952. She was a graduate of Marion High School, where she played volleyball. She enjoyed bowling and dancing to Cajun Music, and watching the New Orleans Saints. Dorothy was an excellent seamstress and cook. Her seafood gumbo was the best. She and Jerry also enjoyed traveling. During their time together, they were able to travel to all 50 states. Dorothy was a faithful member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church for many years, serving as a lay minister and the women’s service group. She loved to serve and to socialize. People called her a “social butterfly.” Most of all, she adored her family, especially her grandchildren, and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory are, her husband of 61 years, Jerry Malone; her son, Mitch Malone (Jonette) of Houston, TX; her daughter, Cynthia Malone Richards (Patrick) of Maurice, LA; grandchildren, Christopher Malone (Christine) and Katelyn Malone of Houston, TX and Matthew Richards (Christine) of Meaux, LA; her great grandson, Grady Malone; and her sister, Helen Kratzer of Roanoke, LA. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 18, 2022 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. Msgr. Jace Eskind will serve as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Friday at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until leaving in procession to the church.

Dorothy and Jeri were one of the first couple we met when we first started going to Good Counsel. She and I would pray for each other and our families in need. She truly touched my heart. Mike and I will be praying for Jeri and the family. May God circle you with his angels and give you strength during this difficult time. I had seen she and Jeri at Walmart not too long ago and she had, as always, a radiant smile! Rest in peace Dorothy!
