NEWMAN Dorothy Diamond Newman, age 85, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2007, at Milford Health Care Center. Born in Milford on February 6, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Morris and Anna Diamond. Dorothy was the youngest of eight children, who owned and operated Diamond Hardware on Naugatuck Avenue at Walnut Beach. Dorothy was an MHS Class of 1939 graduate, an avid reader, an accomplished seamstress, and the office manager of Enduro Products, her husband's business which produced motorcycle saddlebags. A lifelong Milford resident, she referred to herself as a "beach bum" and was a contributing writer to the book "Sand in Our Shoes." Dorothy, who was predeceased by six brothers and sisters, is survived by her daughter, Marcia Lawler and her husband, Joseph, of Milford; granddaughter, Jennifer Brainsky of Astoria, N.Y.; grandson, Thomas Brainsky and his wife, Sheri, of Mt. Wolf, Pa.; and brother Harry Diamond, and his wife, Bess, of Florida. Marcia and Joe Lawler will open their home to family and friends wishing to pay their respects, Saturday, February 10, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., and Sunday, February11, from 1 to 5 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Aunt Dorthy was a warm and wonderful aunt. She always had a great sense of humor and we'll all miss her wit. She was always one of my farher's (Isadore) favorites. I guess that she can at least smoke again. We'll miss her and may she be at peace.
