Mom, I miss you each and every day! I so often feel the urge to call you up and chat about all the things we used to chat about... the weird weather we've been having, what we are planning to plant in our gardens this year, what the grandkids are up to, crazy politicians, my dog, your cat. There have been so many changes in my life since we last spoke. I want to tell you everything, hear your thoughts, laugh and cry with you. I want your advice and your wisdom. I so badly miss your compassion, your unwavering love and your friendship. I miss your smile and your laugh. You have always cared about every aspect of my life and you have stood beside me through thick and thin, good and bad and have loved me unconditionally. I know you are watching over me still and that I will be with you again one day, but you know how impatient I can be. Because you know everything about me and love me anyway. Thank you for all you have taught me. Thank you for being the best mom ever.

We have just learned of Dorothy passing away last February, we have many good memories of Derwent, she was a very good friend, as we reached our golden years and became involved with families we lost touch, but Debbie, Lynn and Shane, we are blessed to have travelled with your. Mom on part of our life's journey. Loved her lots, we had lots of fun when you guys were little in Derwent and for many years after. Thinking of you and your families in your loss. Its such a lovely idea to share memories about Dorothy in this guest book - I dont know that in Germany.
I will miss Dorothys letters an e-mails. She always wanted to keep contact to her German relatives. Last time we wrote on Christmas to each other, but unfortunately, I dont know anything about her disease. I know that she was in Laudenbach with her dad ("Uncle Joe") and her daughter Debbie (I remember a photo with Debbie feeding our pigs) but I was a little girl and I cant hardly remember. But when I was older (perhaps 15 - 20 years ago), Dorothy visited us in Laudenbach, too. I think it was a stopover of a trip.
Dorothy always reminded me of my grandma Cäcilia (Cilli) who died in 2000. I will show you a photo so you can get an idea of that.
Lovely wishes to all of you,
Steffi Heer

It's hard to believe Gramma is gone! We have all lost something here: A sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend...but she was a fried to all who knew her. Positive and selfless, she always talked more about you than herself. She was never far from a laugh or a smile. Gramma has left her legacy in us, her family and friends. We have all been touched by her life!
We'll miss you Gramma!

There she is on this picture way back in time, 1982, as near as ever to her beloved ones and to my heart. We had some beautiful sommers in Canada and in Germany. I never knew someome with such an overwhelming warmth and sunlike smile. Even when she was angry and furious which happened on rare occacions you felt the rigthouness in her state of mind and heart. I always had the feeling that Dorothy was a tremendous and perfect teacher in the art of living. Her hard times didn't break her, her happy times didn't make her proud nor selfish, her middle times didn't bore her. She had so much to give and she gave it with open hands and open heart. There never was a moment of negative energy when I did think about Dorothy or was near her. This consolates and comforts me and her family as I know. "Words, words, words", as Hamlet says, but we who had the great luck to know her know enough. May all the blessings of her spread on and on and on!

Debbie, Lynn, Shane and Lanny:
So sorry to hear of Dorothy's passing. You do not know me, but I have known Dorothy for most of my life and attended High School with her at
Thorsby. She was always pleasant, kind and had a friendly smile. Although I have not visited with her since she moved into Edm.,we sort of kept in touch occasionally. I know she loved her family very much. She also liked working in flower shops.
God Bless you Dorothy.

I am so thankful to have met Grandma Dorothy. She has inspired me to live well and love courageously. She meant so much to her kids. She planted eternal seeds that live on in her grand and great-grand children. What an amazing legacy to leave behind.
Although I only knew you a few years Grandma Dorothy, I remember sitting with you in your restful garden in Warburg, feeling accepted, your gentle wise voice, feeling cared for when you were so concerned for our baby Josie during her sickness. Thanks for loving us so deeply.

Grama Dodie,
Thanks for all the beautiful memories you gave me over the years. You were always there to listen when I needed someone to talk to and I valued your much needed wisdom especially when it came to gardening and flowers.
I will miss your beautiful smile, gentle chuckle, patience, optimism regardless of the situation, and kindness.
Your beauty and love will live on in the hearts and minds of those you've touched.
All my love, forever. Until we meet again.

Debbie, Lynn and Shane,
I was saddened to see the passing of your mother, who so helped me out 40 years ago by looking after my newborn son, Michael, (and the next year, my daughter Ashlea for a time) as I returned to teaching at Westmount Junior High after a brief maternity leave. When my kids' father died 29 years ago, I received a sympathy card from you mom, so there was a bit of catching up that happened then. I live in Edmonton on 137 Street and 105 Avenue and my daughter Ashlea and her husband built a new house on 151 Street for themselves and a 16 month old daughter, Keira. My son Michael is in Calgary and he and his spouse have an 11 year old daughter. So far my health is good ---a bit of macular degeneration and some arthritis--- but my husband Ken Marshall and I are still active. I hope all three of you young people have families, worthwhile things to do, and good health. I wish you all well, and I am sorry to hear of your mom's passing.
