Dorothy Davis Ruch

RUCH, Dorothy Davis, another member of the Greatest Generation, joined her late husband, William L. Ruch Jr. on April 6, after 96 years of a loving life. She was the daughter of the late Clinton Pierce Davis and Leonora Ware. Survivors include three sons, CDR William L. Ruch, III, USN, (Ret) (Kimberly), Robert Alan Ruch (Janet), John Sandidge Ruch (Beth); seven grandchildren, Kim Swalley, Timothy, Kyle, Kristen, Daniel, William, and Kathryn; two great-grandchildren, Emma Rose and Taylor Anne Swalley of San Diego; a niece, Nancy Verser Brumback of Sudbury, Mass.; and nephew, the Honorable Judge Craddock Verser of Port Townsend, Wash.

She waited during WWII for her Marine Corps fianc‚ to return from the South Pacific and then started a marriage that lasted 62 years until his death five years ago. She graduated from Chester High School and the Richmond Business College and spent a career at the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Her chief interests were her grandchildren, reading, and her friends. She was a member of Bon Air Baptist Church for over 50 years.

Her remains rest at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd., where the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the VCU Massey Cancer Center, P.O. Box 980214, Richmond, Va. 23298-0214.
