Dorothy Smith KINGSFORD- Dorothy Smith, 82, of 1865 Riverview Drive, Kingsford, died, Thursday, April 15, 2004, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford. She was born on Aug. 3, 1921, in Spruce, Wis., the daughter of the late Joseph and Caroline (Marik) Hyland. Dorothy graduated from Kingsford High School in 1939. She received her nursing degree in 1968. She married Philip Smith on June 19, 1946, in Spruce, Wis. They resided in Milwaukee for 43 years where Dorothy had worked at the Woods Veterans Administration Hospital for 20 years, retiring in 1989. They moved back to Kingsford in 1989. Dorothy was a member of American Martyrs Catholic Church and a member of the guild. Her family was the center of her life and she enjoyed flowers. She is survived by her husband, Philip; three children, Lyn Preiss of Landisville, Pa., Philip "Duke" Smith and Joseph "Joe" Smith, both of Milwaukee; three brothers, Robert (Grace) Hyland and Joseph "Rueben" (Arlene) Hyland, all of Oconto Falls, Wis., William "Bill" Hyland (Mary Amundsen) of Kingsford; two sisters, Joan (Clark) Linn of Kingsford, Patricia (Robert) Lindholm of Iron Mountain; two sister-in-laws, Jeanie Hyland of Oconto Falls, and Patricia Hyland of Kingsford; two grandchildren, Ray (Laura) Preiss of Lancaster, Pa. and Rebecca (Christopher) Miller of Lititz, Pa. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and James Hyland and her son-in-law, Raymond Preiss. Visitation will be held from10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Kingsford Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home and at noon at the American Martyrs Church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in the Kadlec Cemetery in Spruce. The family wishes to acknowledge the unending love, care and devotion given by her sister, Pat Lindholm and Joan Linn and sister-in-law, Pat Hyland. Special thanks to caregivers, Ann Burby and Stephanie Martinicci. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777 New York, N.Y. 10163 or the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department, 818 Pyle Drive, Kingsford, Mich. 49802 Condolences may be expressed to the family of Dorothy Smith at www.ernashfuneralhomes.com.
