Thank you for being my Stepmother, Dorthy, and welcoming me into your home where we became a blended family. You gave me two more siblings, David and Shanon which allowed me to go from being a middle child in one household to being the older sibling in another. I still bear the scar from one of those sibling rivalries Shanon and I had, but eventually we did become friends. I don't know how you were able to keep your cool the time I decided to help with the laundry and ended up tie-dying a load of your best clothes when i used bleach, or the time I knocked over your favorite statue from a shelf on the wall and broke it when I was vacuuming. You did tell me later, after I had children of my own, that there were times you had worried about me. As a step parent I know that you had to step back at times and it made me feel good to know you had cared. You taught me to drive, even though, I almost put us into a ditch. You showed, by example, that a woman could go beyond the traditional roles and be out in the workforce. I still remember your chicken fried steaks and thick gravy and how you would thicken dad's soup base to make it into a stew. At 14 you opened your home to me when my father took custody of me and helped to raise me for four years. You gave me a sense of family and what I will always remember about you is the softness of your hands as they touched mine. These were the hands of a loving second mother. I love you, Kathy

One of our many favorite memories of Dorthy is the wonderful Christmas dinners she and Lorrie hosted for the Dixie Divas.
Dorthy was the loving type of person where no one was a stranger.
George and I love her, she will always hold a special place in our hearts.

What a beautiful tribute to a beautiful woman. Dorthy will truly be missed by Lance and I. We had so many fun memories together with her and Lorrie, celebrating birthdays and anniversaries, holidays, camping, going on 'rides' to try new restaurants and view the beauty of the ocean, playing cards, karaoke ... the list goes on. Though we will carry on the journey with Lorrie (her person), we will miss Dorothy dearly.
