I knew Doug well. He was a musical genius and a great friend. I was Doug's 'Manager' (Apartment Manager) for years at the building we lived in at 1819 Ivar Ave. in Hollywood. He was a deep person to talk to and rarely, if ever said anything disparaging about anyone. Great sense of humor and humble. I'd asked many times when he might reunite Iron Butterfly, and he swore it would never happen. We both moved on from that place and lost contact for years.
A decade later, I saw I.B. live a couple times (and backstage) in L.A. area venues. We caught up on old times and had a ball. The best one was a biker run & charity event for animal rescues called "Run For The Wild"- when my riding buddies and I walked past the stage during their set-up, Doug looked me in the eye and said over the P.A. "HEY PETE! GOOD TO SEE YOU AGAIN, BUDDY!" Imagine having one of the world's greatest rock musicians announce to a huge crowd of several thousand folks that you're friends.
Can't top that one, ever.
My sincere condolences to Doug's family and friends, and to Doug Jr.- I enjoyed the couple times we spoke on the phone many years ago, talking about you and your dad's music. To quote the words on a autograph he gave me- "Keep Rockin'!"
R.I.P., Doug. Rock the Heavens, brother.

My grandson started watching and listening to InnaGadda DaVida You Tube video in January at about 4 months of age during babysitting commute to our home. He was captivated and remains so to this day. He begs his parents and us to watch it several times throughout his day. He watches the whole video intently. He now is pretty good with matching his body movements to the rhythms and also he tries to sing along at many points. He turns two next month. I was hoping to get a video to you but can´t load it here so I took pictures of it. He is listening to it with his Dad. At our home he has a little drum he plays along on. Priceless entertainment and such an engaging piece of musical art. Your dad and that band provided and continue to provide much enjoyment to others. Please accept our condolences for this loss to your family especially as you go through this year of "firsts" without him.

His songs always tore at my heart. My favorite is Lonely Boy. I love his voice and was so sorry to hear of his death today July 6 2024 on BBC Radio 2. May you rest in peace Doug as your music will live on forever.
