Always a great guy to work with, RIP my friend!
November 2, 2014
We are so sad to hear of your loss. We have known Doug for many years working with him in Prince Albert and in Saskatoon. We always appreciated his sense of humor and kindness. The trip that both our families took to California will always be etched in our minds and we continue to cherish the great memories. We will never forget Doug's infamous shortcuts that seemed to take longer and sometimes scared us but got us to our destination. Wishing you and the girls all the best in the days ahead. Our thoughts are with you.

We remember Doug with affection. He loved to tease and torment while all the time hiding a heart of gold. He will be missed by all that held him in affection. Doug and Karen met while working in a mental hospital and achieved what few of us do in life. They recognized each other as soul mates. Their love was lovely to see and death will not change that. Doug loved his girls and was very proud of their achievements , Doug also loved auctions and was known to drag all sorts of treasures to the acreage often to Karen's dismay. We often enjoyed prowling around the bush to find one of the many treasures Doug was sure was out there somewhere. Karen, you are an exceptional lady and you choose a one of a kind man. We offer our heart felt condolences on your loss of a truly nice man. R.I.P. Doug and know that you made a difference.

I did not know Doug. In fact, i only ready his obituary in the newspaper. He sounds like a hell of a guy who did much for his family. My dad taught me how to install a toilet too :) He left me this year also.
My heart goes out to you all.

Doug was truly an entertaining fellow---always quick with a joke or a set-up, he kept things interesting at RPC. Karen, you truly are an inspiration and great example for us all. Doug`s world was enormously blessed to have you in it. My condolences to you and your family

Doug was my mentor and friend at work. He taught me how be a good officer, how to handle situations with humor and defuse situations. He taught me using humor and many times i laughed so hard at how stupid i did it. He corrected me in a way i never forgot nor did it again.
He was such an important part of our workplace, union president, and it seemed social director lol his pig roasts at the acreage are legendary and certainly raised moral of our squad. Time flew by when working with this man. There wasn't a subject he couldnt talk about intelligently. He was well read and most likely the smartest man i ever knew.
It was obvious family was the most important thinge in his life. You could tell Karen was perfect for him and how much they loved each other anytime you went over. So nice to see.
Doug you were one of a kind! My world was made better because of you. Thank you Doug. RIP my friend.
My thoughts and prayers are with you Karen and your wonderful family.
Hugs

Doug was an awesome friend for many many years. It was through him that Bill and I got together. Wow, cant count the number of card games we played and yes Karen, I still think they cheated!! Bill was one of those friends who helped with the auction hauling and housebuilding. I will miss yoy Doug but rest assured, we will always be there for Karen, Jo and Tonya.

To my strong, loving and caring sister Karen and my wonderful nieces Joelene and Tonia - What a beautiful, warm and fitting tribute to an incredibly intelligent, talented and caring family man! It's been a rough summer filled with loss for all of us. May we all find peace and happiness in our many beautiful, shared memories. My sincere and heartfelt condolences to all of you.

My Brother Doug was a wonderful, wonderful man. He was smart, funny, irreverent, mechanically talented, inventive. All that and much more.
He was only 66 last week when he left us. Sick as he was, he was still a very powerful personality. He decided he had been in hospital long enough and insisted on going home, and home he went. Home to the log house of his and Karen's creation. Right from the trees in the forest... he bought the trees from northern Saskatchewan, milled them in Shellbrook, and turned them into a home for Karen, Joelene and Tonia. Four bedrooms, a huge farm style kitchen and an indoor swimming pool on an acreage east of Saskatoon.
The smartest decision Doug ever made was his choice of partner. Karen is one of the most admirable people I know. These recent years were as demanding of her as they were of Doug. Beginning with his need for a kidney. It was she who provided the kidney, and his every need and want during the following years. She was totally devoted to this man. I want to express my admiration and thanks for what she has done. Doug was a very fortunate husband and a devoted father to Joelene and Tonia of whom he was very proud.

My condolences Karen, Joelene and Tonia. I have fond memories of Doug contributing to Open School activities so generously and enthusiastically. I still remember his entertaining stories such as the one about how he cut off his thumb at family camp. May your happy memories of him bring you some comfort. XO
