Doug Schuessler Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 5 to Jun. 6, 2014.
Doug Schuessler

Slater, Iowa

Douglas John Schuessler was born April 6, 1966, in Des Moines, the son of Jim and Janet Schuessler. He passed away unexpectedly from an aortic aneurysm Sunday, June 1, 2014 at his home.

Doug is survived by his wife, Maria Schuessler; children - Madison (Patrick Truby), Jimmie, Sheridan and Landon Schuessler; granddaughter, Keeley; parents, Jim and Janet Schuessler; parents-in-law, George and Nannette Coon; siblings - Vernon Schuessler, Kimberly (Tim) Manning, Paula Eichinger and Darcy (Glenn) Gill; numerous nieces and nephews; other loving relatives and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jim and Margaret Elwell and Howard and Gladys Schuessler.

The thing Doug loved the most was his family. Doug enjoyed family vacations at the lake, attending his children's sporting and school activities, and coming to the party shed for family gatherings. He was proud of his children and loved sharing in their successes.

Doug had a passion for horses and spent many years raising and caring for draft horses with his dad Jim. Doug also enjoyed the outdoors. He hunted, fished, and enjoyed hunting mushrooms. Doug enjoyed music. When he was younger he played the drums and most recently taught himself to play the guitar. He, his brother, and friends enjoyed tinkering with anything mechanical. Doug's biggest gift was his generosity and kindness. He would do anything that anyone asked of him without complaining and with a smile on his face. He was loved and adored deeply, and he gave us that same love in return. He will be desperately missed but will live on in our everyday lives and in the legacy of his children.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2014 at Salem United Church of Christ in Alleman, 320 NE 141st Ave., with burial to follow at Lincoln Cemetery in Alleman. The family will greet friends Thursday evening from 5 to 8 p.m., June 5, 2014 at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Douglas Schuessler Memorial Fund.

Condolences for the family may be offered online at: www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.
