Reverend Douglas Berry

We would like to offer our condolences to Lucille and family, as we are unable to attend the "Celebration of Life" on Saturday. We first met Doug when he was the Minister of the newly-forming United Church in Millwoods in 1975. Services were held in Grace Martin School and numbers were few. We particularly recall one Sunday morning when our family -- Fred and Amy Merrett and son Nick were the ONLY people in the congregation. It has remained in our memory because Doug continued through the entire service--singing of hymns, sermon, and prayers, as if there were 300 and not only three attending. It meant a lot of us. He was a fine man and will be fondly remembered for his caring and dedication to his calling. With respect and admiration, Fred and Amy Merrett

Lucille and family,

We were sorry to hear of Rev Doug Berry's passing. He performed our marraige ceremony in the evening on Feb 10, 1962 in Innisfail, Alberta. It was a private cermony with only the bride, groom and 2 attendants in which Lucille played the organ.
He also baptised our two oldest children before we moved to Edmonton in 1966.

When Jean, Al, and I were kids Doug visited us from time to time, and we always enjoyed and admired his rakish, man-of-the-world air and his sharp navy hat. We thought he was cool, and the most un-ministerish minister we’d ever met. We also learned a lot about jazz from him. We’re glad he had a long life; ninety-two--that’s pretty good. Hope we have some of the same genes.

Dear John and Joanne and your families,
I'm sorry to hear that Uncle Doug passed away, but I'm sure that neither he nor you were sorry that his suffering had ended. I'll always think of him as a cheerful, kind soul who knew he could dance. And dance he did.

I got to know Douglas through our correspondance over the "McLeod Family History" project, and enjoyed his humor and insights. We were in Sherwood Park twice, and had hoped to visit him, but he and Lucille were away, both times. I remember meeting you there, John.
We are getting too old to travel much, but we will be thinkng of you during the Remembrance Service time.

Dear Lucille and Berry family,
We were sorry to learn of Rev. Doug's passing. We did not know he was in the General Hospital on 9Y. He was a kind and wonderful gentle man and we shall remmber always his love and passion for music and dance and his influence and contributions to that in Grace United especially. Know that we are keeping your family close to our hearts in thoughts and prayers. We will not be able to attend his service on Saturday because Edmonton Presbytery has a scheduled meeting from 9-3:30 p.m. at McDougall United on February 27. Keep on singing, Lucille, Doug will hear you in Heaven and everytime a bell rings, it'll be Doug sending you a kiss. David and Nikki Allan.
