Douglas Brown Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 10, 2024.
Douglas Neil Brown, a cherished son, brother, and friend, passed away on December 1, 2024, at the age of 59. Born on April 29, 1965, in Warner Robins, Georgia, Doug was a man of great warmth and kindness, known for his ability to connect with everyone he met.

Doug pursued his passion for engineering at Georgia Tech, where he earned both a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and a Master's Degree in Geotechnical Engineering. His professional journey led him to several significant roles, including Account Manager at Tensar International Corporation and most recently, Technical Sales Manager at AeroAggregates of North America, LLC. His dedication and expertise in his field were widely recognized and respected.

A devoted family man, Doug is survived by his loving mother, Mamie Brown and his sister, Susan (John) Stachura, as well as many extended family members, colleagues and close friends. He was a proud uncle to his nieces, Sarah, Jenna, and Zoe Stachura, who brought immense joy to his life. Doug was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Brown, whom he cared for tenderly through his death from cancer.

Doug's life was enriched by his love for travel and sports. He participated in the Peachtree Road Race every year without fail and was a dedicated runner. Many of his close and lifelong friendships were formed playing basketball at Wheeler High School. He was an avid supporter of all of the Atlanta sports teams, and most of all his beloved Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. His adventures took him to various countries and sporting events, where he accumulated countless frequent flyer miles and cherished memories.

Doug was a strong Christian, and attended churches of many different denominations, both in his hometown of Atlanta and across the world in his travels. He believed in the power of prayer, and despite being an avid restaurant diner who hated to cook, he never hesitated to bow his head in prayer before a meal, whether he was eating at Chick Fil A or an upscale restaurant. After a moment of surprise, he was often joined in saying grace by his fellow diners, even by those who were not accustomed to the practice.

Known for his friendly nature, Doug never met a stranger. Whether it was his regular server at Waffle House or an important client, he made everyone feel valued and appreciated. His legacy of kindness and connection will be fondly remembered by his family, many close friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

What a privilege to have known "Dougie Fresh" both on a professional and personal level. Without fail, Doug was always deferential and genuinely interested with what was going on my world... ever inquisitive and supportive. I loved joining Doug in the trenches at Tensar, learning the tricks of the trade from a learned engineer. He taught me so much, always with a smile on his face and an infectious laugh. He is in the presence of Jesus now... his smile never to be wiped from his face ever again. Rest in peace, Doug, we miss you, brother.

Doug and I were colleagues at The Tensar Corporation and we both loved employing our geotechnical backgrounds to Tensar's revolutionary soil reinforcement products and application technologies. Doug embraced my passion - consultative selling - by consistently putting others' needs first, and striving to understand (them) before being understood (himself). Doug loved his job at AeroAggregates and traveled extensively to seek out and develop mutual benefits, much like he did at Tensar. These travels occasionally landed him in Denver, where we often got together over a meal to share "war stories", but mostly to discuss faith and redemption. I will miss his infectious smile and laugh, and forever treasure our times together.

Doug is an incredible person who was always shining the light of Christ to the world. The very first time I met him was when I had a flat tire. By the grace of God I ran into him and Doug didn't hesitate at all to give me a ride and make my day. I am deeply saddened by our loss but hopeful that we will see each other again in a better place.

Doug was my pal at Georgia Tech in the early 90s working on the same research project for the same professor. I had lots of fond memories working and traveling with him. Doug was the kindest gentleman I know of to this date and a true representative of God. We had a reunion in Seattle two years ago when he visited me during one of his business trips. My wife who also knew Doug from the Yellow Jacket days and I are very sad today upon hearing the news. It gives me some comfort knowing he is in a better place with God. We´ll miss him dearly.

Doug had such a genuine, warm, and enthusiastic way of greeting and interacting with people that really engendered trust and friendship. I will miss that beaming smile and voice. My condolences to his family and other friends.

I´m flooded with memories of Doug´s kind smile and warm heart. He was truly a giving soul. When these photos were taken in 2006 on a work trip to Cabo, we had a running saying - which also happened to be the UPS tagline at that time - "What can Brown do for you?" It was so fitting because Doug would do anything for anybody. That was just his nature. He will be missed. My heart and prayers are with his family and friends. My deepest condolences.

I first met Doug in 2008 on his second tour with Tensar. As fellow road warriors we shared many common experiences at sales meetings (Mexico, Atl, New Orleans). Doug was always kind and energetic, always a positive word, supportive, and empathetic. We spoke at length about a month ago, he was eager to learn the outcome of my challenges. Only now do I wish I had spent more time asking him more probing questions, pushing him to share more. Doug will be missed!

My friendship with Doug began in 1995 when I had just graduated from engineering in Puerto Rico. On his first visit to Puerto Rico I was in charge of taking him to projects and discussing my designs with him. Without asking for anything in return he became one of my mentors.
As a funny anecdote, at that time my car was a Ford Range pickup truck. Doug always made me stop every 30 minutes to stretch his legs because he barely fit in my pickup truck. Rest in peace, friend.

It was an honor to finally meet Doug, "Dougie" as my husband always called him, this last summer in Washington after hearing about him for years. Immediately I felt the connection of a brother in Christ, so beautiful and full of love. I am thankful that our "brother" is now in paradise with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He will be greatly missed!

Being new to the industry, Doug wanted to make sure that I knew everyone that he did even though his company was a competitor of mine because he loved helping others and making sure everyone was friends. He was one of the kindest people I have ever had the privilege of knowing, and we often discussed how important it was to keep God in everything we did, especially our jobs and travels for our careers. His smile will always be remembered and his acts of kindness for others to be mentored will be something I strive to continue in our industry myself.
