Douglas DUNCAN Obituary
July 5, 1931 - July 12, 2013
Joyce Duncan (née Bentley), and children, Andrea, Aleck (Yamilka Torres) and Jelana sadly announce the peaceful passing at home of beloved husband and father, Doug, 82, on Friday, July 12, 2013. Doug was the son of Emily Jane (née Thompson) and Aleck Moore Duncan. He is remembered by his sister, Norma Neissen of St. Joseph Island; brother- in-law, Lorne Bentley of St. Catharines, Ontario; sister-in-law, Avis Bentley (née Walker) of Connecticut, USA; and many nieces and nephews. Thanks to the doctors and nurses who cared for Doug over the past few years in hospital and at home. A special thank-you to caregivers Gail and Angel for their tender care. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod St, Ottawa on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at 12 noon. The funeral service in the Chapel will be at 2:30 p.m. A small reception will follow. Interment at a later date on St. Joseph Island near Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Donations in Doug's memory may be directed to the Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation, (613) 721-4731.

I just learned that Doug passed away. I fondly remember growing up across the street from your family on Elmridge in Dorval, and I remember times spent with your growing family. I remember how creative and intelligent Doug seemed to me, how he always had a kind word for me, and how supportive he was of me and my mom so many years ago. My thoughts are with you. Our sincerest condolences for the passing of our dear "Uncle Doug". Uncle Doug was the best man at my parents wedding.
He was also my godfather and growing up he was magical to me with his special gifts and caring.
Over the years as we moved to different cities, I had the greatest pleasure in becoming good friends with Jelana.
Uncle Doug, you were a special person in the lives of my parents and myself and have left your mark on our hearts forever.
