My wife and I were talking about Doug just the other day... we remembering the time our family spent a summer afternoon climbing into a sea container in San Jose warehouse, packing warm clothing and vitamins for some children abroad. He was a good friend, a mentor and motivator to do something greater in life. He talked about his family often and know he held you all in high regards. We still miss him

Dear Franco Family
Doug is still missed and remembered with affection
even after all this time.
The time I was a part of Doug's generous work was a very happy and fulfilling time. His passing was a great loss for me, for your family, and for the world.
He was a rare and wonderful person. We all miss him

I just heard about Doug's sudden death last year today, from an NPR item about an old friend trying to find out where he was buried in Palo Alto.
I can't express how sad this new has made me today. I worked with Doug at Rolm Systems, and we would occasionally run into each other since then at the Starbucks in Palo Alto, on Colorado Ave. He always had an abundance of projects going on any time we had a chance to chat, and I always left our impromptu meetings with a smile on my face because of his zest for life.
The quality I remember most about Doug was his enthusiasm for life. He died much too soon, but he left a big mark on the world.
My deepest condolences to his family.

Dear Betsy and sons, I have been in Afghanistan and just heard of Doug's passing. I grew concerned because he had not been answering my numerous emails. I have a huge empty hole in my heart today - Doug became one of my best friends and I could talk to him about anything. I will miss him dearly, and I pray that your family heals from this tragic loss.

Dear Betsy and sons, I just learned about Doug's passing and am so sad. I worked with Doug at ROLM/IBM back in the 80s. We worked very closely for a four-year period. He was a mentor, friend, and a genuinely kind person. He always spoke about his family. What a great man he was! My prayers are with you all.

Doug, the nicest soul I ever met. A gentleman with a very big heart. He worked with me to send food, clothing, medicine, built the largest hospital in Afghanistan. I was at Palo Alto Rotary club yesterday when I heard about him. My day turned to nigh. I am so sorry and my deepest sympathy and blessings to his family. He will be in my prayers for ever

An angel has returned to his maker.
This great man sent millions of dollars worth of clothes, and pharma to aid developing nations. His actions literally offered hope to tens of thousands of helpless women and children in high-conflict rural areas such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Ethiopia, and India. He was a selfless man that improved the lives of anyone he touched. So blessed were we that were touched in any manner whether through his smile or his advice.

FROM ONE ARTIST TO ALL THE ABOVE, MY HEARTFELT COMPASSION IS SPREAD SO HEAVILY ACROSS THE STATE LINE. I AM NOT JUST A FAN, BUT A LOVER OF ALL HUMAN KIND! THERE SEEMS TO BE A SHORTAGE OF MEN WITH THIS SORT OF ROLE MODEL CHARACTER! WE FANS MIGHT HAVE LOST A FINE "FANTASY" FATHER IN LAW, BUT HIS SPIRIT AND INTELLECTUAL DRIVE WILL CONTINUE TO INSPIRE ALL OF US ARTISTIC CREATIVE SOULS, ABOVE & BEYOND OUR WILDEST OF IMAGINATION! PEACE & LOVE TO ALL THE FINE FANS AND FRANCO FAMILY

Music, when soft voices die,
Vibrates in the memory,
Odours, when sweet violets sicken,
Live within the sense they quicken.
Rose leaves, when the rose is dead,
Are heaped for the beloved's bed;
And so thy thoughts, when thou art gone,
Love itself shall slumber on.

Betsy and Tom, James and Dave, I was so sorry to hear of Doug's passing. I regret that I did not have the privilege of meeting the man who helped create, build, and nurture Team Franco. That legacy alone speaks volumes about the kind of person he must have been. My thoughts are with you all as you celebrate Doug's extraordinary life and spirit with family and friends.
