I was fortunate to have him as a mentor in my feeble musical efforts. He was most of all a friend to his students. We would gather on Christmas Eve, (John Parsons and I) at Doug's house to help him put toys together for his pride and joy children. When I heard of Doug's death, I had sadness, and happiness together. Sad for his passing, and happiness that his path crossed mine. Peace to family, and good memories outlive us all.

I'll always remember the good times we all had in Florida and also recently when we got together in Massachusetts. I'll expecially remember your great musical talent on stage and off. Dancing to your music with Sterling Weed was the best for Pat and I. We will miss you.

I have wonderful memories of being in the band with Mr. Godfrey in Medfield from 1980-1988. I remember his wild white hair his enthusiastic conducting and funny sarcastic sense of humor. He needed it as I'm sure we all drove him nuts!! He used to call all the girls Dolores or Agnes which I thought was hilarious, come to find out years later, he used those names when he forgot our real ones!! Lol! We loved to hear him play the clarinet to show us "how it's really supposed to sound" and spent lots of his time trying to teach us to march "right left right" I think of him often with great fondness. He will be missed.

Our deepest sympathy to the Godfrey family.
Mr. Godfrey was an amazing teacher - we all remember him well from our days at Medfield High School. He was greatly appreciated for his sharp sense of humour and artistry as a conductor!

Mr Godfrey was my music teacher during my Medfield years. He was a spunky guy! I never recall band practice being dull. Condolences to friends and family.

"Mr G" or "Doug" was a friend, a mentor, and a musician. He demanded quality from the WHRHS band, and we were eager to please. With his help I made it to SEMSBA (South East Massachusetts School Band Association) playing the tuba, and he helped me memorize my audition piece. On Christmas eves, a good friend and I went to his house (after the birth of John) to help him assemble Christmas presents. He was a proud father. I shall always have good thoughts about him. It was sad to hear of his passing. I phoned him about 5 months ago and he remembered me, and we reminisced a bit. He said he was still playing his clarinet. He was an artist. Many fond memories. Condolences to his family.

My Sincere Condolences to the Godfrey family.

I remember Mr.Godfrey well from my High School years in Medfield. He would come to our home at least once a week before his late band rehearsals.

Wonderful music is being heard in heaven today. RIP Mr. Godfrey.
