Douglas Good Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 5, 2022.
Douglas Earl Good passed away on June 23, 2022 in Woodland Hills, CA. He was born in Santa Monica, CA on February 15, 1952 to Elmer Earl Good and Dorothy Mae Yadon Good.

Douglas attended Los Angeles-based Catholic schools, attending Notre Dame Academy Elementary and continuing on to Loyola High School, graduating in class of 1970.

As a young man, Doug was an extremely talented athlete, performing as a star athlete at Loyola for their football and basketball teams. His stellar ability as an all-league defensive tackle earned him a full scholarship to play football at the University of Southern California (USC).

While Doug was in his 20s, he spent many hours playing basketball at local parks in Los Angeles. During this time, his talent for basketball was discovered and he was offered a second scholarship to play basketball at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly SLO).

All that knew Doug, knew his love for USC Trojan football and he rarely, if ever, missed a football game, always supporting his team through their wins and losses. Along with his love for USC football, Doug was an avid fan of college football, and during the season, he would be found in front of the TV on Saturdays watching all the games.

In addition to sports, Doug loved to camp and hike in the High Sierras, enjoying the calm and peace of Rock Creek Lake. He also loved music and partying with family and friends just as much. Doug was still close to his childhood friends, some he had known for 60-plus years.

Doug retired from GTE/Verizon after 32 years of service. During his time at Verizon, Doug was able to work from home, which allowed him the flexibility to coach his kids in various sports at the local parks and at their school. If he wasn't coaching, he would attend every game (and practices if time permitted). The love of sports and the love for his children were a match made in heaven.

Doug had a witty, sarcastic sense of humor and was gentle, caring, very sentimental and loved tradition. He was a loving, dedicated, and patient husband and father, who loved his wife and kids with all of his heart and soul.

He is survived by his wife Diane of 31 years, son Graham (Farah), daughter Kelsey, brothers Gregory (Lois), Timothy (Niki) and many nephews, nieces and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at St Paul the Apostle Church, Westwood, CA on July 9th 2022 at 11:00 a.m.

Douglas will be sadly missed by all that knew him and loved him.
