Douglas Holbrook Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun from Mar. 18 to Mar. 20, 2006.

HOLBROOK _ Douglas Raymond May 12, 1925 - March 15, 2006 It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Douglas R. Holbrook, P.Eng,, on March 15, 2006, with his family by his side. Born and raised in Vancouver, Doug graduated from UBC with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1952. During his university tenure, he was a proud member of the UBC rowing team. He spent most of his career (35 years) with Commonwealth Construction Company, retiring as Vice President of Engineering and Estimating in 1989. A devoted family man, he enjoyed coaching his children in soccer, baseball and badminton, and when he wasn't coaching he was a fixture on the sidelines of his childrens' many sporting activities. Despite his numerous personal and professional accomplishments, he will be remembered most for his honesty, integrity and tremendous sense of humour. Doug is survived by his wife of 51 years Diane, sons Ron (Leonie) and Bruce (Hiliary), daughter Janet (Rob), grandchildren Vanessa, Steven, Ben, Daniel, Joshua and Rowan, brother-in-law Tony Verrall, and sister-in-law Elma Clement of Ottawa. A Memorial Service will be held at West Vancouver United Church, 2062 Esquimalt, Ave., on Wednesday, March 22nd at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the B.C. and Yukon Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice.
