Douglas Richard "Faja" Leander

Doug was one of those who helped offload our moving truck when all my family and I had at the time was what the word of God said. Manifestation of the grace of God? You bet!

Doug was a true friend for more than 30 years. He was simple a true human being who searched for the real meaning of life, spirituality, and the love of God. I will truly miss our lengthy, candid, and honest conversations. I will truly miss his presence but will always carry his memory with me.

From our earliest childhood at Delaware Trails to our most recent get together to celebrate birthdays and countless phone calls in between, Doug's humorous approach to life was infectious. His introspection led to other trails. I remember the humour. Such amazing humour... so many deep belly laughs for minutes at a time, so much reminiscing about our lives. I will miss you, Doug, more than I can say.

We were mighty, us three, Doug, Bill and I, roaming the neighbourhood and creating havoc. One of my more special memories would be when Doug cooked his mothers steak (she was entertaining guests) for us to eat as an after school snack. He got it all right - charcoal grill. His mom was horrified. That's for the party - what were you thinking? " Last time we ate there.

I will miss our conversations and your love and friendship.

Doug was a friend from Lakeview Church of Christ when I was a teen. He will be missed by his family and loved ones.

I met Doug about 2 years ago post Covid at Shorewood Cafe and Bar. We were instant friends, we shared stories, life's ups and downs and stories of time in the Army. Doug shared with me a couple months ago how much he enjoyed our conversations and friendship. Tonight we toasted you and the spot in our hearts and the Pond, where we enjoyed so many good memories. You are gone too soon my friend, see you on the otherwise. Kari

Doug and I met in the first grade at Delaware Trails and lived in the same neighborhood in Indianapolis also called Delaware Trails. We became fast friends and as a bonus we each had an older sister who were also the best of friends. Our friendship was very special and while we had breaks in our communications; the last 10+ years we were in constant touch with one another. No one in my life had a bigger heart than Doug, his deep laughter was contagious and no one laughed more at my humor than Doug. I loved him like a brother, I will miss our regular phone calls, his dry sense of humor and his constant reminder that we grew up in an age of innocence ... I will cherish my sweetest memories! Rest in Peace Dougy...

My first memory was when he walked into my office but the memory I cherish the most is his smile and his laughter!

I knew Doug as a Tacoma to Vancouver transplant who lived at the Shorewood Apartments, we were in the habit of meeting up on Thursdays at the Shorewood cafe. Many memorable times laughing at life's foibles, Doug had a unique sense of humor and never failed to "get" the finer points of a conversation filled with life's ironies. He will be truly missed by those who understood his strengths and weaknesses.
