Just discovered this very sad news of Douglas' passing.
He was my lecturer many years ago, and I remember him fondly. He was an excellent teacher, had great wit and wisdom.
Condolences to his family and hopefully a small comfort to know he will be remembered with reverence by many!
Such a sad loss

Douglas was an excellent lecturer, and such a nice guy with great way with people. He could have been a comedian had lecturing not interested him. He was always supportive of me while I was one of his students. He was universally liked by his students. I even recall a facebook page, I think it was called "the Douglass McBean appreciation society". There will certainly be a little less laughter without him at QMU.

Douglas, a much valued colleague and friend for over 10 years before I retired.
Much good sense and caustic humour during endless course planning, course committees etc. Deeply respected by professional colleagues and students alike.
So cruel to be taken so soon. My heartfelt sympathy and condolences to his wife and family.

One of the kindest and most caring of lecturers.

At first Douglas was my 'professor', then my boss, but most importantly he became my mentor, and my friend. I am so grateful for everything he did for me. He taught me that it's important to be knowledgeable, but to proceed with humility. He was intelligent, funny and supportive. He was a role model for me in every way.
If it weren't for his belief in me, I wouldn't be where I am today. He will forever hold a special place in my life. My sincerest condolences to his loved ones. x

The sharpest wit and mind I have ever known. A great friend of more than 26 years. Douglas will be greatly missed by a lot of people.

Shocked and devastated by the sad news. Douglas was a wonderfully kind and giving man. Our children attended the same schools and he helped tutor my daughter for a short time. Thoughts and prayers you out to his beautiful family.

I had the privilege of sitting and teaching beside Douglas as a colleague and friend every working day for 11 years. How we managed to get any work done amongst the banter is a mystery. Your knowledge, humour and support is irreplaceable, and was truly appreciated.
