Douglas Miller Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 18, 2025.
Douglas Paschal Miller passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 27, 2025, at the age of 88. A celebration of life was held earlier in Amarillo, and a memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on September 27, 2025, at Hillcrest Christian Church in McKinney.

Born on April 4, 1937, in Weston, Texas, Doug was the 12th of 13 children born to Ira and Beatrice (Holmes) Miller. He graduated from McKinney High School in 1954 and served his country in the United States Air Force as a medic. In 1957, he married Nelda Morgan, and they shared a life together until her death in 1997.

After attending Arlington Bible College, Douglas returned to Amarillo, where he dedicated nearly 40 years of his life to working for the United States Postal Service until his retirement in 1996. In 2001, he married Carolyn Price, and together they spent time serving their community and the military.

He and Carolyn ran Socks for Soldiers, which sent over 13,000 care packages to deployed servicemen during the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. During peacetime, they provided gift bags to patients at the VA hospital and distributed coats and gloves to veterans in need. They also collected school supplies and backpacks for children in Nicaragua affected by hurricanes

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Miller of Amarillo; his daughter, Rene Maruca, and her husband, Paul, of Saginaw, TX; his son, David Miller, and his wife, Carolyn, of Burleson, TX; his daughter, Amy Burchett, of Amarillo; and his sisters, Joyce Kindle and Judy Phillips, of McKinney. Doug also leaves behind six grandchildren-Colt, Beth, Stephani, Grey, Steven, and Meagan-as well as many great-grandchildren.

He will be missed by those who called him husband, dad, brother, uncle, and friend.
