Dear Sue and family,
We knew Doug for 30 years, having met him in 1978 at a work comp hearing. Richard had a work comp case, that the state was resisting. An attorney for the state told us if we wanted the best representation, as we had no one that was representing Richard at this hearing, he pointed out Doug. This attorney told us, that Doug was a top notch attorney, especially in work comp case law. He told both Richard and I, if we could retain Doug, we would be in good hands. Well the rest is history. We spoke to Doug about the problems we were having with the state, and Doug took us under his wing, and became our attorney for the next 30 years. We will miss him very much. He was a kind man, and an excellant lawyer. Richard and Karen Ertle

Doug was truly a gentlemen and a scholar. I litigated many cases with Doug over the years and he was never anything less than professional and courteous. I have the utmost respect for him and I will miss him immensely.

What a pleasure it was to talk to Doug about any subject. He agreed to help Craig Eley and me teach a workers' compensation seminar in Grand Junction. What a treat! He will be sorely missed.

Sue and Family:
I was shocked and extremely saddened to hear of Dougs passing. I am so sorry for your loss. Doug was a great inspiration to many in the Colorado wine industry. I worked with Doug and the wine board while he was chairman (1990-1998). I found him to be a pleasure to work with, a sincere professional and a true leader to the Colorado wine industry. He had a vision in the wine industry and he acted on it. He was the "spearheader" and "king pin" for the development of the Colorado Wine Industry Development Board. My deepest condolences go out to you Sue and family during this most difficult time.

For years I worked in the same building, on the same floor with Doug, Sue, Jim May and Sharon. I worked for another attorney practicing worker's compensation law. Still, I considered Doug a true resource and expert on comp law (and a spectactular art collector). I would sometimes visit his office when a new and tough comp question arose. He was always available to answer those questions and give me insight. Sharon also helped me in countless ways over the years. These kindnesses are remembered and I wish everyone in his office comfort now.

I had a deep respect for Doug both in my role as Director of the Division of Labor as well as VP at CCIA. I also enjoyed his excellent wines and discussing them with him at the winery.

Dear Ms. Phillips and family, Doug was one of my dearest friends for the last 25 years, and he will be truly missed by myself and my children. He was not only a dear friend but, a true professional in every sense of the word, always concerned with my health and how i was getting along, he even called me after i had moved to florida to retire. I was so shocked! Colorado has lost a great man, a dear friend, and i'm sure, a great husband and father. My deepest condolences to his girls!

I called your office today and was SHOCKED to hear about Doug passing! I am SO sorry for your loss. He helped my brother Ken Myers, many years ago, and he referred me to Doug in 2004. He helped me so much the past few years, and was always so patient, understanding, and kind. What an AWESOME attorney Colorado has lost. He will be remembered always. God bless.
